Tyre Feedback threads are designed to give members positive and negative feedback and other information relating to a particular tyre brand.

Please post first hand accounts on the Kumho tyre only as this is NOT a tyre bagging thread

Information we are looking for is noise, grip, look, wear, handling, recommended PSI or any other information that members find useful and is relevant to the tyre type.

I'm really happy with mine. They've only been on for about 4,500k. Minimul road noise. Only been on gravel roads in H4, but very happy.
No 'wobbles', either.

I have a set of KL71s on the GU IV in a 285/75/16 and reckon they are THE BEST MUD TYRE I HAVE EVER RUN that is not a SIMEX.

I have had these on the GU IV for about 25,000kms now and They are AWSOME.

I have just done a 6000km trip up through the Centre and they got a good workout in all sorts of terrain. So here goes.

Firstly I PAID $235 A TYRE DELIVERED TO MY DOOR (that is not a miss print folks)

These tyres replace Cooper STs and they are Quieter on the road.
They are great on Bitumen and offer really good grip, no tyre roll, great breaking, great around corners and just Great road manners.
At 15,000kms i rotated for the first time and they were just about at the bottom of the first block (3mm wear) with heaps to go all done of the bitumen.

I did the next 6000 in 3 weeks.

I did 2000 in the rain on Bitumen and they were sure footed and good feedback, great grip and Just awesome.
I did 3000 in the dirt, these did not chip at all offered great grip, great feel, incredible stopping with a trailer on.
Sand - Just ate it up without a drama,
Mud - Did someone say MUD? Un-believable !!! I did sections of the Old Ghan coming into Mt Dare with 300m sections of flooded wheel ruts and no way round. Plowed through the middle dragging a 1.2t trailer with out a worry. Did i need my Simexs? thought i would but these thing just DID IT!.

These are my Touring tyres and what a great choice they are.

10 out 0f 10 to Mr Kuhmo for the KL71s, Just AWESOME.

This is what they look like in the flesh. See the little step downs in teh center of the centre tread blocks, well after 15,000kms my tyres were basically down the that first step, but after anther 6000kms of trip as described above i could still make out the evidence of the step down. thats 25,000kms to that mark. Pretty good so far i reckon.

Here are the brand new KL71s in a 285/75/16 on new rock crawler 16x8 rims in a Neg 6 offset. Still no lift on the patrol. had to remove the front mud flaps only.

Nissan offset is a +10. going to a -6 made a big difference and still kept them inside the guards

Really happy with them and the price was just awesome.

TAKE NOTE. There has been reports of the price varying from $235 a tyre right up into the high $300s like $375 a tyre for the same thing. If your not happy with the price shop[ around and you will do much better.

They look sweet on the gu mate.[nice truck] I've shopped around a fair bit & at this stage looks like i'll have to do a run to brissie at christmas to get them. Really keen to get them as soon as tho. It's so great getting excited about a new mod, i can't wait to see them on the truck with the new "Thunder Black" alloys.

I bought 8 of them as part of a small group buy off another forum and the price started at $255 but by the time i think a total of 20 tyres were bought (8 to me) the price was down to $235 shipped to my door in Geelong.

The tyres came via IPEC i think and mine were shipped independently to others in the buy. I am pretty sure they were bought from "Fourby's" in Brisbane. Give em a call mate and they may be able to get them to you rather than waiting if it suits you.

I'm after a set of the KL78's 285/75/16 mainly for road use with occasional track use (got some muddies for hardcore stuff), however apparently they are all stuck in customs currently. I had a set of tyres in the UK on my Delica with a similar tread pattern and found them to be fine on and off road. Will post a review if I ever manage to get them.

Exactly what I have on mine. Paid $220 a corner and they have done 10,000 K's now

Replaced Cooper STT's so not a real fair comparison (Mud Versus AT's) however the Kuhmo 78's are...
Heaps quieter and unbelievably better on wet bitumen as they should be.
Much better on gravel, tracks, rocks and sand.
Haven't tried them in the mud yet but that is why I went away from M/T's... just don't do hardly any so impossible to justify the road noise, sh1tty braking and poor handling of Muddies on the other surfaces.

Strongly recommend 4 Rib AT's (from any manuf really) if you don't do much Mud and the KL78's are a very good example at a very good price. On current wear I would expect to see 70 to 80 K out of them easily but tyre wear doesn't always stay linear and as we all know the last 33% is usually rubbish for handling and performance in any pattern so the 80 K estimate is just for a comparo number.

Really well Ruby, they have got a little noisy but any muddy will as it wears down.

I reckon i have over 30,000kms in them now and i have been really happy with them.

I rotated them at about 15,000 and need to rotate them again as there is a little bit of scalloping to the outer edges and that is likely making all the noise.

i would like to rotate the to the other side this time but as they are directional i need to go to a tyre shop this time and strip them off the rims and put them on the other side to allow for a 4 wheel rotation to happen like they should. Good time for a rebalance anyways so all good.

I have been happy with the wear rate and they have not seen dirt since the Central trip in September 2010.

I will admit though that i just sold my Ute and this will become my daily driver down the FWY and the noise is a bit too much for me when taking phone calls from clients during my commute so i may put the 17s and some HTs on for this task. i am wasting a great tyre on the bitumen so that is reasonable.

They still definitely get a 2 thumbs up here.

I pick up my 285/75R16's to tomorrow or thursday. Will keep this thread posted with wear patterns, noise and handling. I am excited to have a NEW good alround tyre. Having gone from second hand BFG AT's on road and Simex ET's, Goodyear MTRS, BFG MT km1 off road.

I always used the Allterrain Kumho on my old HiLux. Never had an issue. The lasted as long as anything else and as said they road noise was softer. Price was good to. The Patrol hasn't got them yet but when its due thats hat will be going on.

Just chalked up another 400 K's today on dirt/gravel and the KL78's are still going really well. They really are a great bit of kit on the dry tracks

I am slightly disappointed in them on the Beach tho, they are still good but not great. The sidewalls allow the tyre to bag out sideways a bit too quickly so you don't get the benefit of the longer footprint at the expected deflation pressures IE they will bulldoze before they will float...

I`m using Road venture KL71 MT. I was very surprised on silent running. Performance in mud excellent, snow also. If We take to sand is ok but working like excavator .
My opinion 8 in 0-10 scale.

I got mine yesterday and have 50kms so far and I would agree moo_r32, but they are still a mud tyre so if anyone decides to get them thinking the are a highway terrain they will be dissapointed. I cannot wait to get out and get them dirty.

Ive done a few 100kms on mine now on road and they are fantastic. A slight ripple feeling at speeds less than 5kms/hr.

I had some f#$%wit in an old dunnydore try to undertake me around a roundabout the other day and I couldn't handle it so I maintained speed into the roadabout (noone else around bar us) and hit the roundabout at 80km/hr and the car gripped very nicely to the road as I went around. Oh and my tb42e out of the roundabout smashed the dunnydore (VP or similar). :)

I am off to melbourne in 6 weeks and will be doing some wheeling there so I will keep this thread updarted with how I feel the tyres perform. Ill also try and get out in QLD to some rocks to see how they go.

Update - I have now done 10,000kms on the KL71's and they are wearing evenly and still haven't passed the 15,000km wear indicator so I am happy with them. They do have a few cuts in them though not from offroading. Happened on road, not sure what it was though, glass maybe oh well. I don't blame the tyre for this, even if they are a softer compound tyre. For the price I still cannot fault them - hopefully now that Uni is over they will get some more use offroad to really test them out.

25,000 Kilometre report - KL 78's

Still pretty happy with the value for money overall. I estimate they will be due for replacement at about 65,000 maybe 70,000 tops BUT as noted previously tyre wear isn't necessarily linear so still a guesstimate.
They have held their balance well and worn very evenly so I have only rotated them once at 20,000 K's. No tread slap, no scalloping etc.

My truck is pretty near GVM with all its goodies and fatrrse driver so is what I call "heavy" and when we are away we tow about 900 Kg in the Camper and gear

Bitumen - very good 8/10
Gravel - excellent 9/10
Beach - not bad 6/10
Mud - rubbish 1/10

As I don't do much mud at all I thought I would be very happy but there is one issue I didn't really consider at the time of purchase. My useage is about 95 % Bitumen/Gravel/Beach or WA outback Sandand about 3% mud (if that). The problem is that the 3% mud can be a show stopper IE if you wear hearing protection and drive defensively then a muddie (any muddie) is OK on the bitumen, a bit better on gravel, no real hassle on the beach and obviously great in the mud.

That means the M/T will go anywhere the A/T will but at the cost of comfort however the A/T won't go anywhere the muddies can. In a weird way that means the Muddies are actually more of an all terrain than an A/T depending how you look at it so my search for that elusive and aggressive A/T that is about a 4 in the Mud on my personal scale of performance continues.

I must also add that the missus and I tour and do very little "playing" so my opinions are biased towards getting from A to B not conquering a mudhole or a hill climb.

Bottom line (@ 25,000 K's) ... IMHO the KL78's are worth the money and perform as well as anything else in an A/T albeit they wear quicker than, say, Coopers or BFG etc so the $ per K figure would probably be similar. I would recommend them to anyone who does very little to no mud so at the risk of setting labels I would call them a perfect choice for a family daily driver or grey nomad that does towing and semi adventurous camping, exploring, touring etc but that stays home or in camp when the tracks get really wet.

I have got myself a set of KL71 (285/75/16) on steel rims. I have only done around 5000km so far but I am well impressed. On the road I run the front @ 36psi for steering feel and 40psi in the rear for road holding due to the roof rack and usually well loaded. They are quite and grip well in the wet and dry. Off road, depending what we are doing, I run them between 14psi and 20psi. They handle everything I've done really well, sand, mud, loose gravel, rock steps etc. They are showing some battle scars but I feel that it is reasonable considering what I've put them through.

You can get any tyres cheap online but then freight and fitting etc pretty much makes the prices on the level with the exception of the Bfg's a/t, most shops want $400+ for them but I priced some at $250 each :) would work out a hell of a lot cheaper!

This is a set of 35in KL71's on my GU IV patrol. I have done about 5000kms on them. It is also the 3rd set I have had on my vehicles, including my old GQ. In my opinion, they are excellent. So much quieter that the STT's I had on there with better grip, both on and off road. They are not supposed to be rated well for sand but I have found them to be very good. I haven't had the oppotunity to have a go through mud in them yet.

Positives:- cheap, quiet, great grip wet or dry, good in sand.
Negitives:- haven't really got anything bad to say about them.
