auto transmission problems

Hi,
We are having difficulty selecting reverse gear but all other gears go forward. Its really stressing us out as we have just bought a new box after having the same problem with the last one. Please someone shed some light on this situation.

If your having the same problem with 2 different gearboxes, that suggests maybe the problem is external. You say your having difficulty selecting reverse, does that mean you can get reverse eventually? In that case it may be a linkage or linkage adjustment issue. Also check for blockages in the oil cooler and cooler lines, unlikely given you have forward gears, but check it anyway.

If you installed the 2nd box yourself did you check the firmness of the linkages as Tony said. Did you change the torque convertor?

It could also be a wiring issue. Because they are computer controlled the selector really only tells the computer which solonoid to operate. Check and clean all connectors (you will need to remove the cover on the floor to get to some). Also check the polg to the computer (behind the passenger side kick panel). If it is a later model you should be able to go to your local Nissan Dealer and get them to run a diagnostic using either Consult or OBDII

Worn linkage joints could be the problem, had that before
