Hey Guys, looking at getting a gu ute but i want an auto trans, would it be possible to convert it and would it be overly expensive?

100% doable mate and it gets done quite regularly with GU utes.

I'm not sure on price mate but the best guys to speak to are the blokes on Barry St in Bayswater Vic called http://www.automatictransmission.com.au/

They do these everyday and are heavily involved in the 4wd scene. Patrol's are one of the easiest to convert too mate so I would start there for a price, then ring around other places but I wouldn't be surprised if they were the cheapest and best workmanship.

I have no relationship with these guys but I know they specialise in exactly what your after.

But having saying that I work right near these guys so if you need help with anything just ask me mate!

Reco trans from these guys is around $1750, converter may be an extra $400 and these are changeover prices. You also need a flexplate, Auto shifter for the trans tunnel. Auto Pedal Box. Auto ecu and wiring loom from an auto car... then it all has to be wired up. Depending on vehicle the Engine ECU may also have a different calibration.

I'm not right up on this, but wouldn't you also need a new throttle body with a TPS connection and the install of a kick down switch on the accelerator??

Thanks a lot guys, it looks like it is straight forward swap but could still end up costing quite a few thousand dollars.
