Hit there
was just reading through alot of old threads and read a little about an ECUtalk computer to help diagnose issues and gives readings on coolant temps, engine speeds, horsepower and so on.

here is one i came across
http://www.scangauge.com/

Has anyone got one of these set up? and how they find it, is it helpful?
also would one connect up to my 01 GU 3.0ltr td???

cheers all

I have the ECU Talk USB to PC hook up so it gives me the real time readings. When I got the USB from ecutalk.com.au they also sent a cd with a stack of different ECU programs on it for free. The interface with the USB to PC works better or me (a GQ driver) as I can see more then just one thing at a time.

Look at http://www.nissandatascan.com/ as an example

So does your have to have a pc connected to it to get readings?
I thought you just got those little screens that sat on the dash? And from there you flick through the different readings

I went with the other option. From ECU talk I purchased the USB (from computer) to Pin connection (to Car). I have a little Netbook 10 inch screen thingy so thought its small enough to have in the car all the time and gives me more readings then just one at a time like the other. So if you have a Laptop (any size) and $90 your in Business.

Leigh,
The Scangauge won't work with your ZD30 Patrol, but an ECUTalk module will work. I just use the ECUTalk and NISTune software on my car pc. Wouldn't be without it.
I also use ScanTech Nissan for transmission data.

Hi Ryan,
I’ve been into car pc’s for about 10 years and this is the 3rd that I built up for the Patrol. I get most of the gear from Mobile Computing Solutions in the USA. They sell all the parts to build your own or complete units to install.
HERE (http://www.chaz.yellowfoot.org/My%20In%20Car%20PC.htm) is a link to my setup.

With the Ozi $$ as good as it is, they’re not too expensive at all. Check out http://www.mo-co-so.com/

Depending on what system you wanted, you could get a car pc for well under $500 or spend up to $1200.

Monitors for around $250.

A good system could be had for under $1000

There is plenty of free software available. www.mp3car.com

Honestly a cheap chinese 7 inch laptop will work fine for ECU talk and a few movies if you wanted to get away.

Something like this will be tops.

Get the Windoes CE version

just go to a nissan outlet. the just hook the computer to your patrol and you can already see whats the problem of the car. usually if theres an ecu problem check engine sign doesnt show. the only way is to by a bran new ecu. repairs are not applicable

Hey Leigh, Merry Christmas mate.

The Scangauge is only for OBD-II compliant cars, so won't work on your 01 patrol.

Your only option for a stand alone readout is the ECUTalk Consult LCD Display (http://www.ecutalk.com/consultlcd.aspx) with the OBD-II plug. These units do work on ZD30 Patrols, but it seems that they are currently out of stock.

Yeah merry Christmas to you to mate, all be a little late :) hope you have a great new year also.

So these ecu talk ones just plug straight in somewhere?

yeh mate In the GQ's they are up around the drivers side kick panel, not sure in the GU's but could be around the same place. I'm sure I seen a thread on here somewhere that showed the location of the GU's plug. Ill have a look 2morrow for you if you can't find it.

all the best for the new year

Cheers

Todd

Yep, you just plug them into the OBD socket, just above the brake pedal under the dash.

Yeehaa, finally got an email to confirm the ECUTALK is back in production (registered interest last year), paid my money today and am looking forward to ACTUALLY know what the hell is going on with the Patrol.
Just want to be able to get some base values for sensors, temps etc, before any engine/ exhaust mods.

Really miss the Scanguage functionality of out last few vehicles....this should fill the slot nicely, by all accounts.

Can't wait...
