G'Day Guys

Ive introduced myself in the new members section so no need for me to rant on. Anyway, basic specs are TD42 with ARB turbo kit and front mount intercooler. 4 inch dump to 3 inch zorst.

2 inch lift & 31s for now. Hopefully will have a complete iron man 3 inch kit on before xmax and a set of 33's, maybe some bar work depending on time.

Here is a shot of her as it is now.

im a bit impulsive too hahah, stopped by WOW this arvo and spotted a oricom uhf on special for $175.00 down from 4 hungy! so jumped on it and a aerial to go with it. Just got home and installed it, great unit so if anyone is chasing one they have the deal at all wow sight and sound stores.

Here is a few shots of the install. Came up nice and neat.

Ended up installing the main unit under the CD player in that little cavity,

cheers clunk, just got back from a trip out kenilworth way and put the rig through her paces big time. I need to hurry up and get the tyres and suspension sorted asap as i had limitations all over the shop traction wise, still did the hill climbs we attempted but need a crap load of right foot which is allways fun. Thought i threw a rear spring by the sounds of one of the attempts, it made a $$ sound hahaha. all good though, back at home and only a few pin stripes up the side. Gotta love these rigs for durability.

Ill get some vids and pictures up later on.

cheers guys,. The paint will be changing after xmas to something a bit more custom, not sure on the colour but airbrushing will be involved to make her into something trick.

Looking forward to the mods, just gotta sell a kidney as the last truck i sold had stacks of $$ invested but i couldnt sell it for what i wanted and lost big amounts of folding stuff. Oh well,

yeah, thought that was a crack up, had to turn around so we could take the picture, well worth it. Funny story bout the toyota, thats my mate Davo's rig, every trip i go on he is allways along which is handy incase either of us need a recovery. His rig has a 3 inch lift, 33's ect. Patrol is stock standard in those respects, he attempted a really nasty rock/loose dirt hill climb and failed on the first attempt, didnt feel right to him so he pulled away and let me have a go. Funny thing is the {Stock} patrol nailed it first go full noise hahahaha. Gota love the GQ's.

got to work on the gutter rust in the wagon lastnight to see how bad it is... and its bloody bad hahaha. Went out and got a stack of cutting disks so i can start chopping her up tonight. Will be cutting all the rust effected areas off and then plating and fibreglass bogging to get a good finish.

All going well you should not know ive been at it with the grinder when im done.

Here is a few shots of one of the sides once i hit it with the wire wheel to see how bad it was. Other side is just as bad if not worse.

Also wondering if someone can help me, i have the crappy fake rear lights in my truck that are this style http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Nissan-Patrol-GQ-93-97-Tail-Light-Reflector-Lamp-LHS-/390110917629?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item5ad46c33fd

But i am thinking of installing this style as i will be doing a quater chop and custom rear bar soon so will be getting rid of the below working lights. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NISSAN-PATROL-GQ-MAVERICK-RH-REAR-TAIL-LIGHT-LAMP-/390351020872?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item5ae2bbe348

Are they interchangable or are they different in the way they mount up ect?

Cheers

Shame mate, thats a bit of rust thats come up so let us know how you go with it!

By the looks of the lights they should just screw straight in to the exiting holes I would imagine.

Bloody good price for the gauges too. I just did mine a few months back and It's an easy job mate but just ask any questions if you get stuck.

I just tapped into the clock for power for mine.

yeah, nasty stuff rust. Should be a fairly straight forward repair though.

Hoping the lights are a direct fit, sould be by what the add said, guess ill see lol. Looking forward to the guages rocking up so i can get more ponies outa the oiler, the last owner had a tame tune done to give it better fuel ecconomy pffftt! hahaha.

Installing the guages should be ok, i have a 3+" dump pipe with the hole for the EGT sensor in place after the turbo so should be ok depending on how siezed the bolt is, not sure where to pick up the boost pressure from though, do i have to make any fittings or can i hook it up to something that is in place allready?

Here is some info on my install but doesn't really help you much with that question. http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/showthread.php?5483-How-to-install-Pyro-and-Boost-gauges-to-a-GQ

There is a picture near the bottom of this post where I picked the boost pressure from (cross over pipe off the GU TD42T - HT-18 Turbo). http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/showthread.php?2600-AB-s-new-GQ-is-finally-here/page27

You could also just put a bung on the elbow that goes into the inlet manifold. When I got it dyno'd after the turbo install the guy drilled and tapped a hole there anyway for his dyno tests, etc...

Progress! Ended up getting a good start on the rust today and starting the guage install.

Here is the Guage install. Ended up doing it a bit different to normal so i could conceal all the wires ect and have a nice neat set up without the guages being in my way on the pillar. Also found out it is illegal to have them mounted to the pillar so was another reason for using that flat bit of space on the dash.
http://i400.photobucket.com/albums/pp81/thespeedfreak2008/2934a846.jpg

First of all i hooked up the EGT sender to the dump pipe. Luckily the bolt came right out with no problems and i just wacked it in.
http://i400.photobucket.com/albums/pp81/thespeedfreak2008/b33d02c9.jpg

Then i drilled a hole in the dash through the dash mat so i could feed the wires right up to the guages and have the wires come out the base of the cups. If you do this make sure you go around the air con vents and not through like i allmost did lol.
http://i400.photobucket.com/albums/pp81/thespeedfreak2008/1c9a7c13.jpg
http://i400.photobucket.com/albums/pp81/thespeedfreak2008/7a4269a9.jpg

Then mounted the mounts under the carpet to conceal the cup base and cut the grooves for the mounts to poke through.

Next step was the wiring, these guages have built in audio and light warnings so you can set the max PSI and EGT readings for the warning to go off its head. To do this i needed a 12 v acc and a 12 v constant as it needs power all the time to remember the settings. As the clock was not working anyway i used these wires from the harness which was a simple 10 min job.
http://i400.photobucket.com/albums/pp81/thespeedfreak2008/43f2408c.jpg
http://i400.photobucket.com/albums/pp81/thespeedfreak2008/b315f844.jpg
Now both the cups are mounted and the EGT guage is installed 100%, as for the boost i have ran into a wall as im not sure where the best spot would be to pick up the PSI level from. Ill post the question in the technical section then come back here for a final wright up on the boost guage,

Ok, done he Boost guage now, ended up making a custom nozzle and welding it to the bolt coming out of the alloy plennum from the front mount. Seems to be doing the job.

Also nearing completion of the rust repairs, welded some plate in the areas i had to cut away with the grinder and then fibre bogged over the top.

Few questions relating to boost in the td42's

Now ive got a guage im showing about 13psi max boost at about 3g's, how high can i go with keeping reliability in the rig using the current mods as i would like more grunt out of the beast?

Question 2 is there a thread in here detailing how to wind up the boost and fuel on the 92 mavs? i have heard you can just wind up the fuel until black smoke shows and then wind up the boost until the black smoke is minimised, im just not sure how or where to do this?

Cheers
Dan

Here is a dodgy vid showing the warning function of the guages. Set the alarm to sound at 10psi to check it was set right.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s52OKtIhG0U

Still not too cartain on the EGt guage though as i only got it to show 300 deg when the foot was down for a few seconds and then it went down to the first reading of 200deg. Do these only run at about 200deg when not being hammered and just coasting around?

been a while since i updated this but have been busy, got the roof done and in undercoat at the moment. Waiting for this crappy weather to settle before i finish it off properly and paint her up.As soon as ive got that sorted i will be spending some dosh on a 3 inch lift kit and a set of 33's and black steel rims. As soon as i recover from the bashing my wife gives me ill be sorting out barwork front sides n rear along with some custom airbrush work over the truck. Still undercided as to what ill be doing with the airbrushing so any ideas welcome.

Oh yeah, also got some spotties and a fishing rod holder for chrissy for the rig.

Also spent some time over at DI during the xmas break, was a ripper day with stacks of fish caught as usual. really loving the power of the TD42 in the sand too, never showed any sign of getting bogged down once she was in the boost.

After a full day of lounging around we decided to tak the old cooloola way logging track back to noosa due to the tide, been ages since we went this way and the road was completely flogged out with massive bog holes, made for an interesting time consuming drive back in the dark.

Awsome great details about your fit-out so far & I too have just got them same guages, they work great on my lil' old 2.8 turbo & I have mine set to turn green with the parkers on but I will see how long this lasts as the green is pretty bright.
Keep up the good work & pictures, on a lite note dont leave the primer paint on by itself to long as it usually absorbs moisture so the rust may come back.
Cheers & nice rig build in progress.

Thanks guys, yep that's correct. Have been meaning to paint it but with all the wet weather we have been copping i haven't had a chance so she has started to come through with rust again. Not too stressed about the body now though as i have found some major rust in the floor pan near the front wheel wells and drivers/ passengers side floors. I was going to fix it up but a new plan has been put into action.

This new plan is to find a wagon body in good condition with stuff all rust "from the rear windows forward" and do a dual cab chop on it in my shed while still driving around the rust bucket. So when it is all done i can swap the body's round to my good chassy and get it mod plated. I had a dual cab a while ago and loved it so figure now ive got the good base i can get the body i liked so much.

As soon as i find a decent body cheap enough the project will start.

I have another update too, i recently bought the suspension stuff 2 inch lift kit running 4 inch SS shocks. Thing flexes really well and gives a really good ride quality. Next step is a set of 33's after i buy the new body as the tread is really letting me down at the moment. Ended up going to scenic rim on the last comp to help a mate out that was entering in his buggy and was slippin and sliding all over the place due to all the rain and clay base.

Here is a quick video show how not to guide someone into a bog hole. funnily enough i asked him to place my wheels either side of the hole, not right into it hahaha.

Here is a shot of the only clean part on the mav, and a bit of a tip for ya's too. Even with these coils "2 " Lift" i had a hard time installing them due to the length.... Used Coil clamps or what ever ya call em to bind up the coils pre install and even after that had some major problems getting them in the front. And yes i took everything from the stabilizers to one of the radius arm bolts out for full drop. Just a really long coil... rear was not too bad with someone standing the rear axel.

yeah, just going to be chasing the body really, not so much after the interior doors, bonnet, ect as i can transfer those from my truck as they are in good nick. Just figured if i can get a TD42 version with the electronics and complete dash it will be a easy conversion instead of having to re do the electronics in the truck after swapping.

got myself a good body for $400.00 bucks and will pick it up in the next few weeks, then the cutting disks get a work out. looking forward to it.

the wagon im going to get is a 1988 GQ patrol wagon, im getting it without the doors bonnet ect and am using the items from my 1993 maverik to complete the body once chopped up. Does anyone know if all the panels are interchangable, ie, latches, mounts ect?

I know the doors are a bit different in design with the little quater window but not sure if the size or general design may of changed slightly.

The attached pictures are what i am thinking for the tray, something a bit different.... The idea is to have a hum v looking rear to the rig but can then have a hinged lid with canvas ect so it can be a pop top camper, should be pretty simple and look the goods too. Idea is to go a millitary look with olive drab paint and all. this is only the basic design so far and will get dimensions ect after i chop the ute up, the idea is to make it comphy enough to be able to stretch right out and not be cramped ect. Will also use heavy seals ect so water/dust ingress wont be a problem while beating around in the bush. The skylight and rear window of the tray will be pollycarbonate for light weight and toughness.

Also going to build in a camping stove and pullout benches and water storage.

Should be a good bit of kit when its done....

Went out on the weekend for a insane play around glasshouse, completed pucker hill, spider track n the powerline track, and bog run without so much as a problem.

Got stacks of vids n pictures but for now i will stick the shots up, oh. And yes i did have to recover a Toymotor on the day, but it wasnt my mates rig. Funny thing is this 100 series managed to get bogged twice in the same section me and the my mate came up but they got stuck coming down!!! never seen somone winch downhill before hahaha.

Bro I have a question? I have a 89 y60 with tb42 engine, bro I want to know that does a wire from the engine "ground" connect to the positive terminal of the ignition coil. My has a condenser attached to the positive terminal and the other end is connected to the engine

Dozer
23rd April 2012, 11:10 AM
sorry mate, cant help ya with that question as mine is the TD 4.2, mine does not have a ignition coil.

Oh, and if anyone is looking to upgrade tires or replace old units id highly recommend the Hankook dyna pro Mt's. These things are unreal, clean mud n clay outa the tread like BFG K'm2s bag out even better and have grip till the cows come home. Got em for about $300.00 a pop including fitting at Tyrepower in Caboolture. Ran them at 25psi all day and never had a problem.

Thanks Roofy , yeah stoked with the flex this thing puts out for a 2" lift. Wait till ya see the videos ey, a few hills the mighty Q was damn near red lining to get up.. thought i was going to shoot the turbo through the bonnet hahaha. Went with the old adage, go hard or go home.

Dozer
23rd April 2012, 06:43 PM
haha, yeah that bog hole was a shocker. Was dead set keen to get to the top but was lacking momentum due to the sharp step up of the hill. what where you driving?

Funny thing is my mate in the 80 was happy i couldnt make it as he would of had to get up after me hahaha. Tracks are really good ey, not too much bog, just enough to have some fun.

A locker front or rear would of done the trick i think.

Thanks guys, i'm in North Brisbane Bastardo. Will be heading away camping this weekend for the little ones Bday to Imbil. Will hopefully get some driving in while im in the area depending on the amount of long weekend drinks are had lol. Will be putting together a drive with a few mates in the next few weeks though to the connondale area so will post up the run in advance so anyone that wants to come along can plan for it.

Their is a track heading off that last run we took that goes right through to Jimna through the mountain ranges and national park so think that would be a fun area to target.

Oh, and while im in here i might aswell ask the question, i just recently installed some ironman 1" spacers to my rig to give it a bit of extra clearance for the tires and have just found that they have moved from the correct position on both rear coils and the coils aren't seated properly. Is their some way i can retain them in the coil? iv'e thought of metal zip ties ect but think they might just rub and break off.

Any ideas on this one?
