Hey guys,

fresh on the forums, with a new 4.2 petrol GQ in my front yard - just bought it yesterday. Those of you who read my introductory message will already know about my lil hiccups. :049:

I've only ever had escorts (and still have one), so I was a bit surprised to see that the oil in my patrol was kinda thicker than what my escort has. Reading off the dipstick, it was half way between empty and full and it wasnt't completely black. Nonetheless I'll be doing an oil and filter change, can anyone recommend what spec and even brand of oil to go for? I don't want to spend bucketloads on oil, but surely there has to be a fairly mid-priced oil that some guys here swear by?

With thanks

Nick

Castrol lube guide (on castrol website) says 20w-50 or 15w-40.

Thanks guys. Ended up going for the Penrite HP Gas 20w-60 as recommended in the thread linked earlier.

Happy trolling

I'm not recommending this, but I have been using 29 oil filters - just imagine that 2 = the last letter of the alphabet - keyboard won't type it anymore :-)

I'm old school and change oil and filter at 5000 ks.

And, buy a waste oil collector that holds 10 litres :-)

Can I use the same 20W-60 for my GU-Ti 4500?

after using hpr 30 in my old patrol for years i switched to penrite hpr diesel 20w60 purely because it came in more convenient 10l drums. bolted a turbo on it at 360k kms and sold it at 450k and it never used a drop of oil. and it was spotless internally when ever i had the rocker cover off to do the tappets or had the sump off to fit the turbo oil drail
