Thanks a heap guys!.
I joined these forums last weekish, and looked though a bit to find some safety facts about towing from a ball.
No more then hours later I was rung, told to get to salt creek and found myself 3 hours from home fishing on the beach.
On my way down the beach I was stopped and asked for a tow, the towee just so happened to sling the snatch em over the ball. Where I proudly stated, nah mate, you'll kill someone like that :P.

A shovel and attaching it securely to tow points on both vehicles, and instead of slamming it with my car as the others said, I slowly pulled her out, I've unstuck a few people off that beach now, please note none of them were patrols!

What's wrong with that? Or do you mean if used over a tow ball?

There is nothing wrong with the shackle mate, but the idea of using it to snatch from the towball is deadly.
You see mate, if the towball snaps off, the shackle will stay on the towball, and you could very well find you have a hole the size of a football right through your head.
Pretend that the apple in the link below is a human head, and the bullet is a towball, with or without shackle.

Hahaha. well put!

Yeah, just remember that a towball can travel about as fast as a shotgun load, whether your head is in the way or not and I doubt if you would even know about it.

A picture says a thousand words.
Those pics are all you need to see to determine how safe a towball snatch is

Thanks for posting ferret

Yep, everytime someone asks a question about TOWBALL snatches, I put these pics up, boring for those who have seen them before, a learning curve for those who haven't!!

I dunno, Holmes, maybe I am just the sensitive type but that photo never seems to get boring for me.

Maybe it is the subtle way the towball goes through the front window, clean through the seat, and out the back window, taking the strap with it like threading a needle that could have been someone's fool head.

You know, untill you said that I never noticed it went through the seat as well. :S

I had never seen these pics before but I think they are a great tool to show the potential a tow ball has if used in a recovery. Thankyou.

Please continue to post both of them up.

lucky for him it wasn't someone else who showed up. It may be obvious to experienced 4wders but to be honest, if you didn't know better and someone needed pulling it you might be tempted to think
'that towball's designed to hold a load, iI'll just sling the snatch over over that'. The only way to be sure these incidents stop happening is to make sure the message gets around
