Dig Tree /Innamincka from Brisbane - any recommendations or tips?

Very much touring rather than going hard - will be heading out to the Dig Tree - fairly fast to at least St George, then sight seeing from then on.

Would welcome any suggestions on things worth seeing and doing :-)

Other vehicle is an X-trail.
