Hi everyone, i ran into a bloke he said to me ive got a GU as well and its rusty under the rubber that sits on the cabin side of the rear barn doors, so while he was there i opened my rear barn doors peeled off the rubber closest to the roof of the car and i was shocked rusty, F__-en thing its only 9 year old and rusty, he tells me his is 5 yrs old and needs to weld in new rubber lip.

Advice to all check under that rubber before its to late.

I will be busy now sanding grinding painting.

I would also check your radiator support panel.

That's where mine is rusting.

i spray some fish oil under the rubber in every 6 months. so far no rust.

where is the radiator support panel? on the side of the radiator? can you view it from the front or from the bottom?

Radiaitor support panel goes right across the front. The rust is normally at the bottom. It is near the rubber body mounts.

Old MK Pat rusted out here to.
looks like a inherent problem.
fish oil did stop it, when applied every 4-6 mths.

Is the radiator support panel the cross member?

The radiator support panel is actually the whole panel which your bonnet shuts on, holds your radiator, headlights and the tie bar (the section that has the 2 front body mounts on it) which is probably the bit your calling the cross member.

Cheers Mick.
