Hi mate I recently put on the autometer gauges and in my opinion they are the best value and quality for the price.

eBay has them for sale pretty cheap and we also have them in the forums 4x4 store at the top of the page even cheaper I think.

I'm using the iPhone at the moment but will post up some links for you tomorrow if no one else gets back to you tonight.

Hey mate, if you have the CRD have at look at the Scangauge (http://www.scangauge.com/)II . That will cover your boost and with the EGT just got to the forum store.
if you go for the gauge then boost you need upto 20-30psi ans EGT you want to at least go to 700-800deg C

When we ordered the steingbaur chip we were offered a boost gauge and this is what was supplied.

Then when the 3" exhaust was fitted again this is the pyroguage that was suggested.
As we bought them from a dealer we just went with what was suggested.

I will have to look up the price if you want but I think they were expensive.

i thought i would hijack this thread instead of strting a new one.
i picked up my 2001 Patrol 3.0ltr TD yesterday, and it came with a Boost guage and another digital guage that i did not know what its for
http://img42.imageshack.us/img42/5206/imagefgw.jpg
if someone has any idea that would be great. It has an in and out temp.

is there any other aftermarket gauges i should be thinking about getting put in?

and types of guages does everyone have for their dual battery systems?

looks like a temp guage for inside/ouside ambient temp to me and not anything to do with the engine and what not................... could be wrong though

I would be getting a pyro gauge to keep an eye on your exhuast gas temperatures mate (EGT's) and also have a read of these posts below for your 2001 3 Litre.

Very easy mate, very easy!

http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/showthread.php?5483-How-to-install-Pyro-and-Boost-gauges-to-a-GQ&highlight=pyro+boost+gauge

The post above is my pyro and boost gauge install but there's not a lot of info on the pyro unfortunately.

Basically the pyro gauge comes with two power sources. One goes direct to the battery for reading and the other just needs to tap into something for the back light to show for the gauge to read at night. Connect that wire to something that will get power when you turn your headlights on. Ashtray light, dash lights, cigarette lighter, clock, whatever. Turn your lights on, see what lights up in your car and see what is easier to take out in your dash to tap into.

The probe just needs to ideally be tapped into the exhaust manifold or the dump pipe. A lot of after market manifolds / dump pipes will have a plug already there to just unscrew and put the probe in and is easily secured by a hose clamp around the dump pipe rather then needing to thread the hole.

The gauges come with instructions but see how you go mate and if your stuck just take some photos of your manifold and dump pipe and show us on here and we can help you through it....Easy job mate!

sweet mate, cheers.
I could connect the light wire up to my Boost gauge wire thats already in the car right? thats comes on when the lights are on :)
as i already have a boost gauge on the dash, do any of you blokes have any ideas for putting gauges? Instead of having the 2 on the dash?

Also what types of gauges or monitors do people put in their cars to get readings of their dual batteries?
Im going to need one for weekend trips and things like that, where the fridge will stay in the car.

cheers lads

Yes, you could do that for sure, that would be much easier mate.

I put my boost in the clock of the GQ but yours is a GU so no idea for other spots. We'll see if any GU owners have any ideas.

Have a look at the members ride thread for some ideas, there may be some pictures in there to have a squizz.

Not sure about the dual battery question but you will get a better response from members if you ask a new question in a new post on both the pod locations of GU's and the dual battery question. Questions get lost if you ask them in existing threads.

Hey mate,

If you want another option, check out my build thread here:
http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/showthread.php?2797-Frenzy-s-GU

I have installed a pillar pod and a VDO pyro/boost gauge kit from fleabay. This is the kit I got: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Exhaust-pyro-and-boost-gauge-kit-vdo-pyrometer/260856993297?ssPageName=WDVW&rd=1&ih=016&category=6763&cmd=ViewItem

You'll need the 0-30psi boost gauge. Google Autron for the pillar pod.

Hopefully you don't drink as many rum cans as I did and cut the hole in the exhaust heat shield in the right place! LOL!

Hope this helps.

Cheers,

Steve

Hey bud

your install looks great. I was looking at those pillars i think are definately the way to go.
You can get them to the color of my interior already which is great. and also with the holes cut already on ebay. (easy to do anyways)
i could use the wiring to the boost gauge thats already in the car, so i wouldnt have to do much for the boost gauge. (gauge is larger than 52mm)
just getting the pyro gauge in will be the challenge, alot of research involved im thinking!!!

What types of reading should i be getting from the boost gauge? Ive never had to have one in a car before. I realise its got something to do with the turbo, but what exactly. There is alot of stuff out there in a mechanical language that i simply do not speak lol

Mate i have an autometer boost and pyro gauges, they look the same so they match.
I went for the boost gauge that has boost and vacuum because it was heaps cheaper than buying a boost only gauge. You wont need a boost gauge that reads more than 30 P.S.I

Good advice suvrd28, depending on the engine you run though the Boost Vacuum gauge will be a waste. If you have a diesel, and i assume by your name you may have, you will see no Vacuum and therefore a Boost only gauge is the way to go.

A boost/vacuum is for a Petrol engine only.
