Just the usual crew, Roofy.
We go somewhere most w/ends I'm home, so there is a trip a month ATM. Licola in October, Craigs hut in Nov. you must go on a Roofy's 4x4 adventure, at least once !

Sir Roofy
20th September 2011, 10:01 AM
Well, what can i say thanks to kat and her lot and bel we do have a great time and what do we do when not planing a trip haha we just go and do a quiet one, like the w/end just gone, now that was ineresting and informative and we did a bit of gold panning as well, thanks steve i realy enjoyed it and yes kat we,l go back to find lucys hut

history is in your backyard you just need to look for it and enjoy the experiance imagine what life was back then
how did they get the machienery into the bush and down the spurs to where they wanted it what sacrafices did they make how many lives where lost that where not recorded while walking to these out posts ?

Take a minute sit back and ponder where would we be today with out our pioneers,we all have 4x4s and do lots of
exciting things with them,as you go down or up a spur imagine doing it with bullocks or horses

or camels 20,30 or 40 animals pulling wagons and machinery

I would be keen for some panning too...lol...Haven't done that in years!!!

I used to have an old metal detector but only found a few old coins and shiploads of fencing nails...

The best spots to find old coins and items were under big oak trees and shaded areas in old farms, etc...Thats where people hung out...LMAO

Yay it should be good fun! I love Walhalla - just hate caravans in that area - one nearly ran me off the road and down a cliff last time I was there. He was coming towards me too fast and needed to use my lane - didn't care about me, so hopefully this will be a better experience this time with the Troll!!!

How's your steps?

Walhalla is a great place. Stayed in the pub there last year. It is fairly new but built from original plans from the one that burned down years ago. Walhalla was the last major locality in Vic to get electricity. The mine tour is really good. Take your camera as the scenery is fantastic. Sorry I can'y be there. Have a ball.

roofy have you been to the cemerty's at Edwards Reef and Store point?
There is also a mine that is still accessable at the moment. They may have been sussing it out though there was blue paint with numbers on the wall every 100 or so metres, that was at the end of august. Also the water wheel at donnelly's.

Thanks you good folks.
Been following this post with lots of interest.
That takes me back a long time, we used to camp at Bruntons Bridge on the Thompson. Was a great place to get away in our Falcon Panel Van. No 4WD then.
I think that would have been 1980-81 - that long ago!!!!
The bridge was fairly solid and high, is it still there?
My wife and her family used to go there occasionally, the houses in town were as they left them with plates still on the table.
Looks like there might be more tourist stuff now. There was just the Long Tunnel Mine when we were last there.
Worked with a guy at Yallorn who owned the railway station and was going to do it up, wonder what its like now.

g,day macca
bruntons bridge has been restord by parks and is in good nick
long tunnel mine is still operating and has daily tours, some of the shops are still working
some of the houses have been restored and people use or rent out ,the train station is done up has two locos now
not sure if it running at present some of the line was undermined when we coped all that rain awhile ago

walhalla is a busy tourist town you can say at the pub and theres a coffee shop there as well
the horse and wagon still does rides up and down the street so maybe you wont reconise the place now

its like most places now if theres a dollar to be had its the tourists that supply it
