was wondering if anyone knows if the plug thing located on the top left hand side of my radiator on my TD42 is infact a thermostat switch and at what temprature it switches. (found this plug free hanging)

Left hand side as you look into the engine bay I assume? (drivers side). Could be, but not sure if the diesel setup is different. Normal thermostat temps are set around 85 degrees, with colder thermostats available (I have one in mine) that change around 72-75 degrees ...

Is it obviously off the radiator (the hanging plug)?

are you able to take a photo of there whereabouts mate, might help to work out what it is

It might be a thermo fan switch for the fan on the aircon condenser, some models it was a last resort to stop the motor overheating (on at 107 deg off at 105 deg) or it used to have aftermarket thermos fitted to the radiator.
