Hi All, long time reader first time poster. I'm about to win a contract to maintain road side signage. It will consist of a lot of driving and installing signs around the roads and pulling down signs.

The signs will only be small ones. ive got a GQ but need a work ute for this kind of work (carrying concrete, old poles and fixings, jackhammer, general tools, etc). I'd hate to say this but I'm leaning towards a 2wd hilux or something else for fuel economy, etc. Just wondering if anyone knows a Patrol model, preferably ute or maybe wagon that would be suitable for long driving all day, reliable but most importantly economical. Fuel cost will be a big thing for me so I'm just not sure a Patrol would be suitable.

Trying to stay loyal though. haha. Thanks for any comments.:)

Well, you have the 3.0l diesel option which should be economical enough.
It really depends on the budget, what else you want it for, etc. A trailer is another option for the GQ, not fuel efficient but hook up work stuff and then drop it off when you go bush bashing.
Fuel is a tax write off for a business vehicle anyways.

Keeps it loyal anyway

Yeah, I did research on economy v strength. Came up with 3.0 or 3.3 litre turbo diesel. I get good economy for work trips. I travel 30k each way to work and home 10days/fortnight and providing I don't go any where else or do towing etc 1 tank diesel gets me through. About $92.00 per tank.

Forget the Hilux, get a Navara. It's not a Patrol, but it's still a Nissan! Thats if your budget wont stretch to a Patrol ute.

I too think turbo diesel is probably your best option for this kind of work as there fuel economy is hardy effected when towing or carrying heave loads unlike petrol & this should help even when quoting on jobs.

Thanks for your replies, Gives me somthing to think about. I was also leaning towards the Navara YNOT as I dont need to carry a "huge" amount of weight. I'll do some figures now haha.
