I've recently done mine an yes the first strike with the angle grinder were sh1t scary but all in all not so bad. i did it their way with rivets we'll see what it looks like in a year, welded would be the best way to go

As said, be careful not to take out the rear light wiring when cutting ... that would make for nothing but added frustration ...

never done it, but apparently don't forget to tuck the wiring up out of the way that is inside the panel b4 the cut :-).

I think I read somewhere that a nibbler does a nicer job than a grinder.

Just quietly, shh! But you guys are friggin' nuts. IMHO of course. Being a new guy here, I hope you take that in the spirit that it was given.

Mad maybe but not nuts. However it does help not crunching them on big rocks and large drop offs.

Ahha, at last got round to cutting my quarters :jawdrop:
No dramas just the usual crappy weather here, wind, rain and wind :icon_bonk:
So pics were short on the ground as when you're lying on it hacking off years of muck and best Jap steel it got forgot, sorry.
Any road up it wasn't hard to do , just be very careful of the wires. I'd read that and still had a near miss on one side. So my advice is simply unplug the loom and pull the wires right out. Only takes a few minutes.
I had ordered a set of rear lights from Aus , from a Maverick I think, as the UK lights only have brake and reverse in them. The rest were in the bumper ?
I modified the loom a bit to fit them and so was able to bin the bumper :spam:
http://i667.photobucket.com/albums/vv36/daudwpsyn/20130129_094356.jpg
Once the quarter was off I made up some cardboard templates so I could cut some new steel.
http://i667.photobucket.com/albums/vv36/daudwpsyn/20130127_112737.jpg
Kept them a snug fit and as such they were nice n tight up the slot :devilred:
So making welding easier. Welded them up inside the wing, then battered the overhang back onto the plate and welded again. :smiley_thumbs_up:
Result

Put plenty of seam sealer inside the wing and redrilled a hole for the cable grommet. Job done :hpfredgeorge1:
Went offroading the next day and fell in this washout :driving2:
http://i667.photobucket.com/albums/vv36/daudwpsyn/troloffroad.jpg
Bugger me if I didn't go and bash in my new cut rear quarter
http://i667.photobucket.com/albums/vv36/daudwpsyn/20130129_094343.jpg
So I reckon it's time to pull my finger out and get a dirty great rear bar sorted quick sharp .

Found this while I was bumming around on evilBay.

Nissan Patrol GQ Quarter Chop Plates (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Nissan-Patrol-GQ-Quarter-Chop-Plates-/170979700885?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item27cf2f3095&_uhb=1#ht_3187wt_906)

I don't know how well they will work, because I assume it will depend on where you cut your quarters as to the profile you will need for these plates. Still, for $30 + postage, it might save some time stuffing around with cardboard etc.

I have no affiliation with this seller, just thought people might be interested.

Heaps of different ways and videos on the net already, but I'll do one to.
I'll also be making the plates to weld in..
