Roofy's 4wd Adventures

Decided on a little day trip, yesterday, and luckily Roofy, Jane and Bel decided to tag along.. what was going to be a leisurely Sat arvo cruise, almost ended up a overnight campout.
Katrol got to take the day off, as the 'other' 4x4 wanted a day out. So, the first thing we had to do was make it presentable to the other patrols.

I found a write-up in the 4wd Action mag on this area. It is only 20 mins from my place and didnt know it was there..
So, we pack the mag, a couple of maps, bit of food and between us all, thankfully plenty of recovery gear. head off about lunchtime, thinking we would be back in town for tea at the pub..

Oh boy, was I wrong !
Keeping in mind that two weeks ago, this river system had closed major highways, we werent sure what we would find.
After a few wrong turns ( I really suck at navigating) we made it to the first campground for BBQ by the river.
Now, off to find all those river crossings, supposedly working our way back to the bitumen.

The problem with floods, is it moves trees and debris, and makes things impassable. Each track we got to, there was no way to pass, so backtrack to the next one.

It was getting late in the day when we turned into what we thought was the last section of track. ( It didnt look that far from town on the map) That's when things started to go a little pear shaped. We made it down to the riverback, Roofy set off across the river looking for the track on the other side. It wasn't there !! So, after Roffy had finished splashing around in the freezing mountain water, we had to turn back and backtrack all the way we come in.( about 2 hours). By then the sun was going down and getting cold. Bel was in the lead, and although this particular track in was fairly rough, no-one thought anything of it.
http://i1110.photobucket.com/albums/h453/katwoman001/Avon%20wilderness%20Park/Avonwildernesspark068-Copy.jpg

We get to one particular section and proceeded to spend the next two hours or so, trying to get through it. It was slippery and deep. So, lots of shovelling and momentum finally got us all through.

There was plenty of wildlife to see. Although our car being last, we didnt see much. Needless to say, by the time we got back to town, the pub was shut and we all went to our own homes, dirty wet and cold. All cars and owners ended up with battle scars and my leg still really, really hurts...
Thank you to Bel, Roofy and Jane for coming along. It was great to meet another member and I am now REALLY looking forward to Talbotville next weekend.
And I must give mention to cruiserman and his car, even though he copped alot from the two patrol owners, his help and skill was invaluable.

We plan to get up there again, and hopefully will be just as exciting !

Hi Kat,
Great pics, sounded like fun, bit of a shame that OTHER 4wd was in pic's, but hey any extra 4wd on any trip out in unknown tracks is always a bonus. Next time you plan a trip out that way give us a heads up, I am only over at Fish Creek and would like to tag along and explore that area with others.

I think I have already meet you a couple of times at a few swap meets, that is if you are who I think you are? Now that will get you thinking? I think I have known your other half for about 12-13 years. I used to run the Rosedale tip about 10-11 years ago. Had a BIG yellow v8 duel cab Hilux back then, woke up to myself and now own 3x Patrols, 76 G60, 85 MK & 90 GQ wagon. But do miss my old V8 hilux, hilux was call BIGBIRD. Anyway I hope that I have the right people, if not I am sorry and you can disregard all this dribble.
JEFF.

save up the polishing out until you are ready to sell? Otherwise the next scratches will be in thinner paint, and so on each time.

I agree that scratch filling polish works - Silver had a coat of it, I reckon, when we bought it as it looked shiny and scratch free, but over time the polish weathered off.

I bought a bottle, and put it near Silver, but it seems more is required to get the full effect :-) It came with a matching wax stick for the extra big scratches.
