For those who don't know, THESE BAD BOYS are known as Radio Controlled Rock Crawlers. (RC 4WD's)

Another vid to wet your appetite (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7k9qilCO0mM)

I've been wanting one for quite a while now and have been doing a bit of research. Make no mistake, these are NOT cheap. Expect to pay anywhere between $500 and $1000 for one. Start adding more money to upgrade parts and make them more capable.

Money aside, aren't they freakin' awesome? I've ALWAYS loved radio controlled cars. As a kid, always had an RC Car/Truck of some type. Firetruck (still got), Jet Hoppers, Buggies, Cop Cars, Jeeps.. lots of diff units. 90% were pulled apart by me as a curious child and in-turn, ruined, except my Firetruck... parent paid $100 or something for it when they had hardly any money. More of a sentimental piece really.

ANYWAY..

Who's heard of them, seen them, got one?
Who is suddenly interested in them now?

Yeah, you know you are.

Rather than me go into explaining all this stuff, do yourselves a favour and YOUTUBE (http://www.youtube.com) RC Crawler. You will find tonnes of vids there of all different kinds of units. There are full blown Rock Crawlers, Scaled 1:10 units, 1:8, 1:18.. something for everyone I think.

The amount of pats for these cars is phenomenal. These are virtually like a real car. There's real working diffs, shocks, links, deformable tyres, 4 wheel steering.. the list is just massive. Check this site out (http://rcrockcrawling.com/) to see what I'm talking about.

I could probably write a 2000 word essay on this subject and still not cover everything.

I myself would like to buy one, keep is scale and start entering competitions with it to win stuff. I think it'd be a cool hobby to get into and probably a bit cheaper than rolling a real 4wd. :)

There are plenty of social groups all over Australia and I'm sure there are competitions everywhere too. A good website that I lurk around is The Crawl Pit (http://thecrawlpit.com/forum/). There is heaps of pics and info on the forums there, have a look around. There is also sections by STATE where you can see whats going on in your area.

ONLY bad thing.. there are currently no NISSAN PATROL bodies available. No-one makes them. A few have tried to make them with limited success. Others use a Jeep Cherokee as the front half looks like GQ. But.. I wouldn't say no to an awesome looking Hi-Lux :D

Let the drooling begin.

Awesome stuff! Very cool.

With that kind of money I'm guessing we can't do stuff like this?

Fun to watch but for me the money would be better spent elsewhere.

haha I totally understand mate.. just ribbing ya.

Well my tax money will be burning a hole in my pocket you see. It's either get a diesel chip, a RC rock crawler, Pay off loan, save for rent deposit, Rear bar or new winch bar or new laptop.

Hmm decisions, decisions!

Timbo, I was watching the today show this morning, and saw two of these things hooting around. Now I'm not 100%, but would bet my left foot there was a miniature GU comp truck there. Apparently it's at the Melbourne 4x4 show.

I have a couple of 1/10 scale Crawlers.

I brought 1 for me and 1 for my then 5 year old so we could do a bit of father son stuff. he loves it.

They are quiet and good fun. You will never look at a pile of rocks the same way again lol.

I went a couple of HSP branded ones and did a few alloy upgrades of the stuff that breaks and reckon they are great. Quiet and good fun. I have a few mates with them too and got a bit of a course going at a mates place.

Check them out int eh credits of 4WDTV, great fun. And you dont need to spend big coin for a good setup. I reckon i am out of pocket $700 with two fully setup, modded cars with everything i want......
Well nearly, hehehehehe thinking of dropping a Lipo motor in it and it will really get up and boogy.
