Melb to townsville road(ish) trip help.

Hi all,
The family and I are road tripping to townsville for a family event in the back end of July thia year.
We will be taking about 5 days up amd about a week back with about a week up there.

Unfortunatley we will be taking the wifes jeep as its a little nicer on long trips so this rules out and harder 4wd tracks. We will be towning our road based caravan too.

My question is are there any landmarks and or good free cap spots we should hit up on our trip. I know there isnt a whole lot of time.

Make sure you park the car inside the house in TSV as it has a horrendous car theft problem. I transit thru there and stay a night on the way home each roster - never a dull moment and lots of bright flashing lights running around thru the night.
