There was chatter over the airways,
the word had got around,
Covid19 can suck a duck and the Spirit was Sailing for free.
The young men got excited, and smashed the credit card down,
A Trip to Tassie for a pack of good C#nt was booked.
3 GQs would Gather they say,
To muster ready for the tracks,
What tracks you ask? Well "Come What May" was the call from the docks, may Tassie serve us their best.

Shit got Real pretty quick though, we might have bent some stuff. But drive we did, and smashed out some of the Best Driving to be had.

Rossco Winnie in the Silver Bullet,
MB matfew in the Farm Truck
And MudRunnerTD and Navi Zach in Casper the GQ.

What a cracking trip gents. Thank you to the fellas above for a Bucket List trip. For pulling winch ropes, for being an anchor, for laughing, for swing off my high side to stop 5 roll overs in 1 day! For keeping it real, my son Zach will remember this forever.

I have driven some of the toughest tracks of my life in a car I built from scratch for This Trip!! Epic!

Climies Track using the hardest lines always,
Lake Cumberland track, the hard side.
$1000 track (Coldstream River Track)
Coldstream River Hut!!!!!!!
Magnet Mine Track.

#justsendit

24volt the Shit out of Everything!!

Let the Photo Bomb Begin.

Thankfully we all finally agreed to steer clear of Balfour Track this time around Philstar Mate!
The blinds were specifically made for bow waving those long stretches of fibrous sludge that’s impossible to hose out.
The relatively clean bog holes throughout ‘T$T’ just swamp around the back of the blind anyway whilst parked/stuck waiting for winch line hook ups to haul arse out as quick as possible [emoji51][emoji1696]

Damage report for silver brumby both rear quarters and front right little dinted, all adds character but might try the footy trick on the left one. .

Alternator seems to be 100% after not being happy and radiator is all good after professional clean on site in the wilderness thanks to a beautiful river and Dazs on site pressure washer and shop compressor on hand[emoji106][emoji106]

Have done some more research on the sealed/water cooled alternators that V8 Toyoda’s desperately need out of the factory being sump design mounted [emoji23][emoji107][emoji107]
Turns out they’re a 4 bolt block jobbie too like the sealed BMW jobbies we also missed whilst killing time on the ferry.
Have found one mob that’s externally encasing standard alternators with approximately 1-1/12” hose vents, front, rear & side that I honestly reckon we should all NP.com.au explore further [emoji123][emoji106][emoji106]

Probably makes no sense, happy to draw a diagram if needed [emoji23]?

Yeah I have been thinking about your setup. I would make something up with winch horns welded to the top of a piece of flat plate with 2 mounting holes ans screw the flat plate across those 2 light mount tabs you have there. Easily added and removed and stored as a single piece. Note that mine are actually just U brackets bolted upside down mate.

Yeah maybe, not really though. Mostly just make sure the horns are vertical. If they splay out to each side they just lock the whole lot on top. The rope is not ever really tight around them, just looped. Lift and throw for the win.

Yeah I have been thinking about your setup. I would make something up with winch horns welded to the top of a piece of flat plate with 2 mounting holes ans screw the flat plate across those 2 light mount tabs you have there. Easily added and removed and stored as a single piece. Note that mine are actually just U brackets bolted upside down mate.Yeah I have thought about something like this simple bolt on off for when needed, plus removable dildo is in the cards I think. . Having a 50mm reviver hitch in the bar is a bonus and perfect for it[emoji106][emoji106]

Ever since destroying an alternator going through a flooded swamp, I thought a sealed one would be the ducks nuts. But there is bugger all room to fit one on the RB. I would have to fit it where the now defunct aircon pump used to be.

Thank you all for taking the time to post the great pics.

Yeah it is not just a plastic and a straight PU. It has a flexibility cross between a rubber and a plastic. I asked the guy i got the DazWing Perspex from, he sold a PU rod the right size but was very rigid. No good. There is a market for the right kit for sure. Mine is 65 or 70mm, the one listed above is 50mm.

nissannewby
24th March 2021, 07:45 PM
It will be a pu with some type of silica content similar to that used in the adult industry. I will do some research and see if I can find a material. It may even have some kind of vinyl in it. PU is pretty flexible though on its own. A lot of can bend around onto itself. Like all things rubber and plastic there are many grades and shore ratings.

MB
25th March 2021, 04:24 AM
Pretty sure we’ve bought the exact PU blend for a spring replacement on some indoor playground products before. It was horribly expensive stuff and IIRC something like $100plm for only 25mm diameter rod.
https://www.profileplastics.com.au/
I’ll ask our designer today which PU blend was sourced as it was critical for us also to have instant memory return and zero splitting where the fixing bolts are drilled through.
I just purchased the 4WD Shed 50mm one complete for the 12v Iskra/Mahle High Mount upgrade but will be upgrading it to the next diameter larger size if I ever copy Darren and run 24v through it faster. A wee bit too flexible as it is on the faster 12v winch but would be fine on a low mount winch as only one last winch click currently folds it to half way too easily [emoji51]

Hahaha. Yeah looks a little odd right up until you are waste deep in the soup and then it is a shiny star mate. Trendy cause the 2 other cars there now Both want one.... 1 has one already. Lol.

To be honest, although it is Great in the mud for keeping the hook high ans easily accessable. It is more important for a Himount running 24v as the winch run-on is significant ans for safety's sake you can hook the hook on and spool in and it provides some resistance to help slow things down without your hands in the way.

"Trendy" was taking the piss. But you need one Phil. You know it mate.

If you look back through the photos you will notice in quite a few an Orange ribbon hanging off a tree here and there. We thought it was for a Dirt Bike trip or something. We spent 7 hours on the track for 13kms and got to near the end and came upon 2 blokes with HUGE back Packs Walking back up the hill we were coming down. They had 40lt of water in each back pack and they were walking it in to planned check points for an Ultra Cross Country Marathon happening that weekend. They could not believe that we drove through the bog holes...... Their Runners were going to Run through them..... In Both Directions as part of a 50km (There and Back) run up $1000 track... The participants would have Wet feet at the start of the race as they had to run across the river and then straight up the hill. Insane People.

https://www.theadvocate.com.au/story/7175665/runners-raise-165k-for-bob-brown-foundation/?cs=12&fbclid=IwAR2bOd_QZCkpZurvRvAz2M3TLRCukjsYsI5aqhS3T oXCeqauDLTJNEzLh-M

Some of the Bog holes are Waist Deep, the Smart runners would run along the edge surely? Mad as a Cut Snake.

Those Tassie rocks on Climies were 1.5 Billion years old and were never connected to the Mainland as we know it[emoji848]

Can this thread be transferred to Trips & Treks - Tas? Had to dig deep to find it here in General Chat.

There are a couple of other trip reports I can't find now because they weren't put in trips and treks section.

FWIW: Cats out of the bag obviously now, hindsight says it’s a good thing to educate adventurers of the potential dangers on Climies Track but Fair Dinkum I thought it was a Vegas/Vegas scenario to not worry our better halves for next parole release [emoji848][emoji23]

I must agree. Threads and photo dumps of trips like this have to be viewed at ongoing intervals.
Starts building from the placid starting photo at Maccas car park and just gets more epic from there. Love it!
