There are 2 likely causes of the noise.

The first is the bearing in the tensioner pulley is worn out. While you can get replacement bearings it's easier if a bit more expensive to buy a new pulley with new bearing in place. Check by removing the drive belt and spinning the pulley up by hand, it should spin smoothly and quietly.

The second and more likely cause is the bushes in the ends of the tensioner strut are flogged out (have a close look at the photo, the strut shown has flogged out bushes and is off a GUIII ZD30). Repair by replacing the strut, easy job with hand tools if you have basic mechanical knowledge.

The other possible cause of the noise you are hearing (aircond clutch is kinda noisy as well with a ticking noise) is the alternator pulley.

They run a clutch pulley and a prone to wear out.

With engine running, stand on the passenger side of the vehicle and look at the alternator pulley, sometimes you can see the pulley moving backwards and forwards on the shaft.

Also check pulley with drive belt removed for movement or noises when turning backwards and forwards by hand.

What Tony said ^^

Got a GU a few months back and it was noisy right out the driveway of the dealer. Took it to my wife's boss (mechanic) and he replaced the tensioner - problem fixed on the spot.
