Dual Battery Tray

Hi all,

About to install a dual battery system. However, I'm having trouble deciding on the tray to use.

I've heard the Piranha's have been known to split the inner guard from the weight.

I was thinking ARB, but I'm trying to keep the amount of drilling to a minimum, if at all.

Does anyone have any recommendations or experiences?

I got a ARB tray from the wreckers to fit to my 2004 GU III TD42Ti. It didn't just slot in, there was a bit of bending of the tray required, but there was no drilling involved.
I had to fit a rivnut to the inner guard to bolt the support brace into, but that was about the roughest it got.

I've been looking at the ARB one for the GQ, I think it looks to be sturdier and will support the weight a bit better than the others.

I can't tell if it requires drilling or, if it does, how much drilling I'm likely to need to do.

Out of curiosity, if it were to require drilling, how do you rust proof the hole? Is this stuff adequate?

I used one from TJM. It was a good solid tray with plenty of support
No drilling, bending. It bolted up to all existing holes in the car.

Thanks for the reply!If the tray is manufactured for a specific model, it *should* line up to factory mounting points. Best thing to do is call ARB (or TJM) and ask them, if you have doubts.

Mine did come from the wreckers, so who knows what had happened to the vehicle it came out of.

As for rust proofing, if you have to drill holes, most likely they will come through the wheel arch so you can spray them from both sides for best coverage.
I'd say any enamel paint would be suitable, but I am not an expert, just an enthusiastic home DIY'er having a go.

I gave my tray a clean up and a quick coat of satin black from a rattle can before I installed it.
