Howdy all

well - me and Steve (04OFF) have been chatting, and it's time to organise another trip!!!! lol ... thinking of somewhere a bit closer to make it more accessible to everyone, and obviously somewhere we haven't been yet (as a group). So the suggestion is for Scenic Rim - http://www.scenicrimadventurepark.com.au/ - on the weekend of 13th and 14th of August. That gives everyone 9 weeks notice (we'll no doubt be doing day trips etc in the interim as per the Beerburrum trip this weekend) and hopefully enough notice to get everyone from previous trips, and some of the other members who haven't been out yet to come along. Steve has checked and this clashes with no comps etc out there, so should be great - can still have open fires also!!! WOOHOO!!!

Scenic Rim is 74 klms from the Brisbane CBD down Mt Lindesay Highway past Beaudesert - so a sub 1 hour (ish) drive for those on the south side, and sub 90 minutes (ish) for those on the north.

Soooooo ... who's in?? Friends, family etc are obviously welcome - doesn't matter what the vehicle and what capability - it'll cater for all.

Travel down Beaudesert -Boonah Rd (toward Beaudesert), turn into Sandy Creek RD (Bromelton)

Travel all the way down Sandy Creek RD, turn right at the roundabout, then first left onto a narrow dirt road/track,

Follow this un-sealed rd to the park, (this track also leads to City View 4x4 park), if unsure, bear left at the junctions/tracks or follow signs to Scenic Rim Adventure Park.

Entry point to the dirt road (that leads to Scenic Rim 4x4 park) via Google Earth GPS.......

Latitude 27°59'41.21"S
Longitude 152°55'39.79"E

Or, cut and paste the following into the Google Earth "Fly To" box....

27°59'41.21"S 152°55'39.79"E

40 mins from me is a little to far to travel me thinks. The thing that entices me is MacCafe at Beaudesert makes a good cappacino

04OFF

Think you'll be surprized how far you will get Tim, ive seen plenty of leaf sprung stuff go the distance, but if you want to take it easy , all the blue tracks (MAP's ,Click HERE (http://www.scenicrimadventurepark.com.au/images/stories/March_2011_map_of_tracks.pdf)) are for stock standard 4x4s with road tyres (so easy a Lada Niva could do em :smiley_thumbs_up:)

A good example of this blue grade of track, is the pic of my "GU with a view" (3rd last pic), its a very scenic drive around the ridges, steep in places, but could almost be done in 2wd, i did it in a bog stock GU with "lowered" (sagged 2'') suspension.

There is also tracks a bit harder, then fun tracks, a play area, and right up to way to friggin hard tracks ! ,so something for everyone, even Dhuck & ben-e-boy should be able to find a bit of a challenge.

bugger it, those hills look too steep to walk up when Loverly Wife, Loverly Daughter and Katwoman leave me behind again. Dhuck, can I impose on you for a lift, again??

Yeah, we'll aim to be there, and presumably Bob and Doreen, will let them know.

I haven't checked to see how that fits in with Ekka?

I could be in for a day trip. Not too sure at the moment as I only get back from my trip the week, and cricket finals are that weekend and I have my first big design assignment for my final subject at uni then. So it could be tough for me.

I know none of you will understand the enormity of design so meh, paste me about it lol. I will let you guys know closer to the date/a couple of days before. A day trip to scenic is very accessible for me so I might be able to get away for a couple of hours, we will see.

OK, so ive pre booked a camp for us all (camp 1 on the map) MAP (http://www.scenicrimadventurepark.com.au/images/stories/March_2011_map_of_tracks.pdf)

Its has the best access for those that may have 2wd tow vehicles or car trailers/camper/caravan (or BT50's) etc, it is also closest to the Toilets/Shower block, and very easy to find once in the front gate.

To make it easy for everyone, I plan to organise a "A" message board for the area with "Nissan Patrol.com.au" sign of some description (or may just be drunken scribblings of "a la Scotty":trink13:)

Anyone who is definatley coming ,that also owns a chainsaw, can they please bring it along ?

But as i found the first time, the web instrutions kinda suck, Ive put together my own basic instructions (and GPS coordinates) to help those that have never been (or just wan't to know) how to get to Scenic Rim adventure Park.

Night driving is allowed in the park up until 9pm without any pre approval, and i know a great little plateau that is perfect for looking at the Stars in the Milky Way, the Stars as ive seen from this spot are so much brighter/clearer without the huge haze of light emitted by city lighting.

Howdy all

well - me and Steve (04OFF) have been chatting, and it's time to organise another trip!!!! lol ... thinking of somewhere a bit closer to make it more accessible to everyone, and obviously somewhere we haven't been yet (as a group).

Attendees thus far:

$45 per car for the whole weekend including overnight (total) PLUS $7 per person per night over 16 years of age, and $4 per person per night under 16 years of age - so for you (as I think your daughter is under 16 and you are there one night) = $45 + $7 + $7 + $4 = $63

Update: just spoke to the owner and a few things to know.

1. Don't go past the roundabout on Sandy Creek Road (goes to the hollows and you can't get through) - apparently GPS units try to take you this way

2. Keep LEFT on Swan Gully Road - there are signs for a 4x4 park going right, but that goes to City View park (wrong place).

3. Bring firewood - most stocks in the valley are now depleted. We can go up to the ridges and cut fallen timber to bring back logs for bigger fires (and we will), however there is limited material around the campsites we are at.

4. They have penciled us into campsites 1, 1A and 2 based on the numbers coming - we'll put a sign up at the office anyway, so there'll be no other campers in those grounds other than us.

4. UHF 17 when you get to the park.

There is a shop within driving distance outside the park, but nothing at the office, so make sure you have all you need.

Looking very forward to it .. hope everyone who's said they're coming makes it ... should be a hoot!!

Hey guys, I was thinking the other day we could organize little "work shops" on things on these weekends. Things like recovery, maintenance, chainsaw use.....ect. Get people with experience in these areas to do a quick informal on them. As some of you know I am an Arbourist( tree looper) so I can bring a few saws and show basic maintenance, sharpening and cutting. Others who are mechanics or mechanically minded can do servicing and preventative maintenance..... More " real world stuff " not text book learning.

Just a thought.

Fab idea, i dont own a chainsaw, but would be interested to see how to get the most out of using one.

I think Safe (and un safe) Recovery methods should be something talked about at some stage.

I guess, if anyone has a interest in photography , or just has a Digital SLR Camera ,and wants to bring it along, we could go off for a hour or so and share some tips ?

I was thinking a flat ground wheel placement challenge might be fun - run over the witches hat kind of thing - don't have any witches hats but perhaps water filled balloons provided we pick the rubbish up - cane toads seem to be in short supply at the moment. Maybe short bits of 50mm + dia branches so people can feel when they hit them. Curvy course with left front, right front kind of thing.

http://www.scenicrimadventurepark.com.au/contact-us

But as i found the first time, the web instrutions kinda suck, Ive put together my own basic instructions (and GPS coordinates) to help those that have never been (or just wan't to know) how to get to Scenic Rim adventure Park.

Travel down Beaudesert -Boonah Rd (toward Beaudesert), turn into Sandy Creek RD (Bromelton)

Travel all the way down Sandy Creek RD (top right on pic, passes thru the word adventure), turn right at the roundabout, then first left onto a narrow dirt road/track (A)

http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j320/02ard/Scenicentry.jpg

Entry point to the dirt road "A" (that leads to Scenic Rim 4x4 park) via Google Earth GPS.......

Latitude 27°59'41.21"S
Longitude 152°55'39.79"E

Or, cut and paste the following into the Google Earth "Fly To" box....

27°59'41.21"S 152°55'39.79"E

04OFF
9th August 2011, 11:53 PM
From the previous post, Follow (A) this un-sealed rd, leads all the way to the park, (this track is also used to get to a different 4x4 park, City View), follow signs to Scenic Rim Adventure Park.
if unsure, bear left at all track junctions

http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j320/02ard/Scenicentryroad2.jpg

("A" is the track you will already be on, leading from the roundabout) , when you get to the junction , track "B" leads to City View (do NOT take this road), make sure to keep left.

At the second junction take track "1" (or bear left again) UNLESS you are in a 2WD vehicle ,or towing a car , caravan/non off road trailer, then you may use the smoother track "2"

Gogle Earth, for this image

So from previous post ,most of you, or those of you without Trailers etc, will be on track "1"

You will come across a closed but unlocked wire cattle gate, procceed through and close behind yourself. (watch out for cow poop when you jump out)

Eventually, after a bit more driving, you will end up down at the front gate (shown below, with white arrow)

Proceed to office (tip of green arrow) here you pay fees, get map etc

The red arrow marks the Nissan Patrol.com.au camp site (campsite 1), Bigrig (Scotty) will have arrived on Friday morning, and "should" be reachable on UHF channel 17

I think I kinda went 4x4ing with you guys and didnt even realise it. ( didnt see this thread until tonight ) A mate and I had a little muck around at Scenic Rim today. He was in a Blue 4Runner 4" lift, 33" muds & front locker and I was in my gold GU stock suspension and newly added 285/70R16 KM2's. Anyway I recognise a few of the trucks in the pics above and somehow ended up in front of the red GQ along Slippery Hills/Carwash Lane. Sorry guys I would have stopped and had a bit more of a chat if I knew you were from the forum! Dunno how i missed the banner haha

It was my first time out there and while I found the maps difficult to read/innacurate. I still had an absolute ball. Even though I was really happy with how my truck performed, I found myself missing my old trucks. ( 80 Series cruiser 4" lift, rear locker, 33's sliders, winch etc & also my Gu Coil Cab, 4" lift, 33's, Sliders, Winch etc ) Thinking about heading back next weekend for the Suspension Stuff challenge.

yep, also had a great weekend. Camped up on the hill to leave more room for the camper trailers down below. Need to bring a back pack next time, as when we went for a social visit to the lowlanders we seemed to run out of drinkies at about 04OFF's camp :-)

Only had to move 50 metres from camp to find a creek crossing that stopped Silver due to factory bull bar meeting rock. Plenty of others got up there with varying degrees of drama.

Nice little play area only a couple of hundred metres from camp that we rolled around having fun with the Billy Lid in the front seat. Even had a play there loaded up with all the camping gear and roof rack bag. Same play area was responsible for the demise of a CV joint - but we stayed out of that particular hole.

Thanks Scotty and Steve for the info and for motivating us to get out. Jason, thanks for the chain saw lesson, a ripper! Steve, sorry to have missed the photography tips, but will catch up next time :-)

Went along for the day today with my truck and 3 y.o. We all enjoyed ourselves!

Didn't have the co-pilot/photographer with me today so, like hekarewe, I'm very keen if anyone has any stills or video of frenzy running amok!

Nice view....
