drawer question

This may be a dumb question, but is there any reason that drawer rollers can't be recessed beneath the drawer rather than on the sides?

Strewth mate, that's about as heavy as asking the meaning of life.
Probably not but that would mean the case must be wider and the weight would be carried on screws etc. through the side rather than bearing straight down on the rollers.
