Have any plans been made for an Australia Day 2019 Meet-up?

Really need to get away and haven't caught-up with anyone since AB's Donk Party. It's a long weekend and looking for ideas (it will need to be caravan accessible for me unfortunately).

Yeah unless its local'ish, I will be doing sweet fa! Work commitments and funds have zip tied me right now. Id be happy to hold a shindig at my joint! If its hot, I have a pool, I'll have plenty of home brew beer! And we can annoy my neighbors together.

I'm open for suggestions and at the moment the only place I can think of is about 20km south west of Ballarat at the Smythesdale Gardens.

https://caravanontour.com/free-campsites-and-low-cost-camping/victoria/victoria-camping-campsites/1075-smythesdale-park-rest-area.html

Lots of shade about, flush toilets and hot showers, (gold coin donation but I'll have to check) and about 40 sites.

There are actually some reasonable 4WD tracks in the surrounding bushland, these are used by the local 4WD club for training and accreditation. (The tracks are always more interesting in the wet). No swimming but Lake Burrumbeet is about 15km away.
I'm happy to check it out in the next week or so if anyone is interested, yell out if anyone has a better suggestion for a site.

You’ll be right to pick us up from the Broome airport I assume. Should only take a couple of trips in the yota.

Place I mentioned is very accessible Bob, you’ll have no issues with the Maxima. ( At least it’s a Nissan, unlike Growlers new rig).

Someone might come up with a better location so nothing is confirmed.

Your New Nissan Bob towing the van I believe would get onto Ulupna Island for the Murray River cool waters no sweat these days mate!
Well graded now and chunky bluestone rock base through all the little Billabong crossings of boggy old you no doubt remember also!
Unfortunately now can’t do this forthcoming celebration Jack mate, un-Australian of us but found out on Friday just passed working all late January 2019 needed :-(
Have fun folks, stay safe!!

Hey Jack, any further thoughts on this one mate.

Hi Nic,

No one has come up with any other options at this stage.

I’ve had a look at Smythesdale and we can fit heaps in there but after a couple of fires in the area (one yesterday),they have banned fires. It’s got toilets, showers, and a camp kitchen of sorts (with power) and limited 4WDing in the area. Gold coin donation and easy walk into town, pub etc.
Plenty of extensive 4WD tracks at Mt Cole about 70km away and swimming (fishing) at Burrumbeet about 20 km away.

Other local options are Slatey Creek and Mt Beckworth but these have limited sites and will be busy I expect.

Let me know your thoughts and I’m happy to arrange it if we have any starters. I’m looking at more of a family type get together and I’ll be there from Friday onwards.

Bob easy access for grumpy old men.

I've been thinking of doing something on the long weekend but not sure what? Was thinking of heading up the Border Track if it's not too hot, but have no plans whatsoever.

This 'south of Ballarat' option interests me. Only thing is I don't know anyone.

At this stage it doesn’t look like this meetup will be going ahead BUT that may change if we get some more takers. I’ll keep you posted.

Never let ‘Only thing is I don't know anyone’ stop you from going to a meetup, first meetup I was on my own and made very welcome. Been to heaps since and they are a very welcoming mob.

Good to know. There're a few folks on this forum I'd like to thank for their help & advice, some are over in WA. Great excuse for a trip over from Vic.

What's the baby going to do.... Gum your camp gear to pieces?I don't have a tent lol, gave it away and the roof top tent isn't totally suitable to carry a 4 month old up and down the ladder especially in the middle of the night. I have to put to work into getting the camper trailer back in order.
