Hi guys, I have recently bought a patrol and have intentions of raising it. What I was wondering was if anyone knew what their standard height is so I can ascertain if it has been raised at all in the past and how much higher I might want to go? Does anyone knwo what height it should be from the factory and where it was measured from?
Cheers,
Yowie

Usually measured from the bottom edge of the rim (for factory rims) to the metal top edge of the quarter panel flare (not the plastic).

Not sure of GU original height, but "reasonably" sure the front of the GQ measured 762mm stock standard as detailed above.

The measurement on the Front of my GQ is Centre of hub to wheel Arch 600mm
and bottom edge of Rim to wheel Arch 800mm, I have Sunraysia Rims and 2" Lift fitted

Hi bigrig, you are absolutely spot on for my rig! It is bang on 762mm. It must have had the suspension done at some time. in fact it is on monroe shocks but have no idea of age. Is there any way to tell?

Have you checked in with the logbook? I'm one of those people who keep the receipts of work done so I know dates, costs etc. You might have been lucky enough to score the rig from someone who does the same.

Other than that, I'm sure they'd be stamped somehow to tell production date, but would not show the actual installation date (could have been in storage/on the shelf for months).

Cheers Bigrig, unfortunately I do not have a log book with the vehicle. I bought it having had a good check over and knowing it is free from rust. It has over 300,000 on the clock so I am aware that there are going to be some issues, but generally it is a good clean truck and a good solid base for building into something really nice... I hope so anyway. All I need now is time and money!

my gq with 10r tyres is eye level across the roof, if that helps. I'm 6 feet tall :-)

If this is the measuring points that you indicated, mine is pretty well right 800mm - front and back.

When I first bought it, it suffered from 'droopy bum' and I took it to Pedders to replace the rear springs. Well they replaced the rear springs with standard and it sat the same, ie 'droopy bum'.
They went to the next height to get it to sit the same as the front. I suppose thet makes sense with what you are saying but I don't know why the front sat a little high in the first place. It appeared to have original springs all around.
After 10 years the ride height has remained the same.

The trouble with taking measurements from the wheel rim is that different diameter wheels will give different measurements even if the height of the lift is the same. Best to measure from the centre of the wheel as this does not change.

Ok, fair enough. The wheels are 15" - which measures 400mm across the rim so take off 200mm and my measurement is 600mm give or take a couple of mms.
