View Full Version : Vic meet up summer time

AB
16th October 2017, 07:20 PM
We already have a pretty decent forum meet in winter for our annual snow trip but there's been some members interest via pm for the same meet up but in summer.

Just an expression of interest and possible location in vic for a big summer meet say late Jan early feb for a four day gathering on a river somewhere.

Just a chat for who would be keen and where we could go at this stage.

Has to have a spot to swim and family friendly of course, thoughts???

I'm in for this. I would NOT go for a gazetted long weekend for all the known reasons - makes it more difficult for a 4 day alignment, but the quality of the weekend will be better.

Hopefully we're in, prefer Feb if possible.
If the planets, moons, suns and stars align I'll have a lot more free unrestricted time from Feb. Fingers crossed.

Gonna have to be in Tassie if I'm to get there this summer......... but it's a great idea & would love to get to it another year. Far nicer than playing in the cold wet white stuff!
How's AB going to carry the pizza oven in his Patrol though?

Prefer river or lake to coast personally.

Mobile camp pizzas are Phills expertise so if he was joining us we could all chip in with ingredients and have a big pizza cook off with other members ovens!

Murray is always a good spot not so good for the smaller one.
Make sure they all have a whistle or hand held if they wander off.
Might be up for this but need to see how things pan out first,

AB

If your wearing a bikini Roofy I'm definitely coming! lol

Nah we used to go to Ulupna Island for years and it's a cracker of a spot, not much 4wding at all but the long deep sandy banks could be fun.

Problem being though is that there is so much glass on the banks from idiots so if we did decided to go here as a meet with kids we would have to bring rakes and all chip in to do a full check and clean.

Almost every single time I went there the kids got cut feet.

It's a result of fires burnt in any spot along those banks and idiots throwing glass in the fires and simply throwing some sand over the fire at the end of their trip.

But...If we all do a full clean we should be good to go!

Andy, what would be the best dates to get a decent camp area in this spot? That is probably the first question. Secondly, I dont mind rolling the sleeves up to clean the place up from glass but is there an alternative which could accommodate us all

Thats why i chose the week before the week before Australia Day. I reckon we'd have half a chance mate. Its really Late in the holidays for Christmas break so most would be gone and early for Aust Day celebrations.

AB
24th October 2017, 07:14 PM
Yeah Its really hard to say to be honest mate.

I went up one year on Australia Day weekend and it was busy.

In that area the far left spot under the shade was all gone with a big group of 5 cars.

The middle section was taken up with 5 cars and then very end was taken up with 2 cars.

It's a gamble really.

I really don't know Krisso but to take up the whole area would be a standard weekend in Feb and we all turn up on the Wednesday until Monday/Tuesday etc but that doesn't work for kiddy school holidays obviously.

It really is a great relaxing spot with some of the best coloured sunsets in our country. Unfortunately as AB mentioned earlier we stopped visiting some years ago due to the unfortunate glass issue with our young families. Honestly reckon we spent 2 hours on our last visit after car loading cleaning up others crap. Maxhead & AB are onto a great idea with rakes to bring along. Could also make a fun afternoon of it all together with a prize for best removal contraption of the day and better for years to come :-) Google ideas below for blueprint starters :-) http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2017/10/98.jpghttp://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2017/10/99.jpghttp://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2017/10/100.jpghttp://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2017/10/101.jpg

The National Park side of Ulupna will be quieter. Theres a massive spot there, not on sand, but a nice hard packed surface with the beach right in front of you. So little chance of camping on broken glass. But. No dogs allowed in that area.

Will have a 21 month old and the missus if we come. I don't mind a bit of a party and music, but the yahoo's with chainsaws at 11pm, 1am, 430am,(not this group) were a bit much last time.

Downside of camping a long weekend, sad way to end what was a brilliant two week trip.

Nah that's not us mate, most people will have kids and we all pretty much go to be bed at 10 or 11 and anyone who stays up keeps quiet.

We've had dozens of these trips and never an issue with kids.

Hey mate would be great to see ya again!

For sure, absolutely. The road in has some pot holes and the local council in recent years have been throwing rock down but your camper will be a breeze.

I've seen 20 footers in there.

Thanks AB, as you know I`m not afraid of a rough track and a few pinstrips adds character,. Big chance I`ll be there.

Look forward to it mate. It's easy to get into.

I'll have to make up some NP directional signs from the main drag for everyone as I gave clear instructions to Bob and he couldn't find it?

Of course I could not find it as he deliberately sent me on a wild goose chase LOL

BTW it is not where he usually camps
