View Full Version : September '17 Photo Comp - Awkward 4x4 moments/ recoveries

TPC
31st August 2017, 09:24 PM
This month's topic was chosen by our August winner Yeti's Beast

Awkward 4x4 moments/ recoveries- Message from Yeti's Beast: "It could be good for a laugh to see how people end up when they misjudge where they are going."
I am sure there are plenty of members who have had things go wrong while 4WDing and hopefully they have photos of these moments. There also should be a few out there that have broken or dented there 4WD's from time to time and that would probably fit into this category.

Remember to follow the rules shown in pink below.

Regards
TPC

Past winning photos can be viewed HERE (http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/showthread.php?29697-Photo-Comp-Past-Topics-amp-Winners).

* Multiple entries should be made in separate posts

* Each entry should consist of a single photograph & a short description only

* Comments pertinent to entries are encouraged, but please do not use this thread to engage in banter

5 hours and 1km later, this would have been the 5th winch for this track which was very unexpected. Rossco and I went for a relaxing drive with a friend of mine in his Pajero. Turned out to be not so relaxing! http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2017/09/3.jpg

When I was there the harder three runs had been flogged so much it was almost impossible to drive down them , soft powder sand two feet deep .

Cmon spill the beans !Hmmm, guess I'm kinda committed now haha. . . Let's just say had a bit of a Russel Coight moment, and it was a looong day ! ! Got to the top with Pajero in tow after about 5 different pulls on this hill and many other winches to get to it including turnnig around and securing to a tree to winch up the Paj with extensible straps etc. Anyway got to the to of this one on level ground with the Paj somewhere safely behind just round a corner. Got out and un hitched everything from the tree then tuned around to see the car starting to roll backwards down the hill. Think i looked at it in shock the thought HOLEY F#@K and just ran and jumped in in time. Lucky I turned around in time, just made it, think the dude in the Paj would have s#!t himself haha. Lucky he was just out of sight & none the wiser. . . If it were a Land Cruiser i could blame the hand brake but not really in a GQ . . .WOOPS, guess alls well that ends well [emoji6] . . .

My 4x4 stuck/awkward moments are limited. But this was my hairiest one. In the photo as always, there is no justice how steep that was. My clutch let go then. The car was pivoting from FL to RR and slighting backward on the shale. I don't mind admitting I peed a little then cause if it went further back to the right, would have turned into a Paturtle on its back.

Mates first time in the sand. He was on his way to meet me up the beach when he got stuck. He sent another guy up to get me & when I got there they were trying to pull it out with a Diahatsu & a six foot length of chain - like that was going to work. Ended up snatching him out with the Patrol after clearing some of the sand.

Bought him a shovel for Christmas!

Had an oops on Climies Track, Tassie. Wrong line after a long day of driving. Photos never do it justice, but opening my window would make the car lean further, so it wasn't far off going over.

With my old man holding it down, that's probably 2 foot lower than without him!

Can I sneak one more in because old mate Dazz has been drilling members on here lol

Long story short a couple of us folk here dedicated a day to help old mate put his turbo on with a clear list of parts needed.

Old mate forgot a crucial fitting so we spent all day driving around to find this fitting only to end up here to modify the oil feed.

Exhausting day but not a single F given lol

The votes have been counted and it is obvious that it is the GQ's that seem to get into awkward moments.

In first place we have Winnie's photo of AB almost making it up Big Red.

73322

Second place goes to Kalos with his GQ nose first into a water filled ditch.

73323

Third place is a tie between Softly and his GQ being swollowed by a sand dune and Winnie showing a GQ can winch 2 Cruisers at the same time.
