I had a thought of an old plastic siphon hose that was given to me years ago, you may know the cheap one with the red plastic primer squeezer that you squashed with your hand to help prime to get the flow happening. I saw a couple of primer bulbs in BCF, one was 8mm I think it was and the other was a 10mm job. Thought it might go well when I had to siphon some diesel from a jerry / drum, well it works okay, if you don`t mind a trickle on the outlet side. It does speed up if you squeeze it several times and I`ll have to work a way of removing the little one way valve so the flow can be increased. Cost me $15 and I all ready had enough clear pipe, plus clamps that I scored from other jobs. Any one else with better ideas?

Yeah use a funnel .

GQtdauto Did that and had fuel on the paint work, hence the little idea put in to practice to waste time, as the drums I`ve been storing the fuel in aren`t the best to pour from. I`d rather do this, than hold a twenty litre drum splashing fuel all over the place and wash the car every time after wards. Saw some thing similar to day and it had a price tag of $36. Don`t let me stop you for using the idea though.

Yeah jerry cans aren't the easiest things to hold while waiting for them to empty , the pourers they make to clip on them are ok but the seals flatten and perish quick so I replaced mine and upended two 20 litre cans for maybe two three drops of spillage when removing the pourer from the filler .
They make electric pumps small but good enough storage could be an issue on the track though , TD had a setup to siphon from the roof rack I think but again finding a sealed container to put it in somewhere on the outside of the car is a hassle .
Your original idea is as good as any I've seen mate , if you come up with the perfect solution I reckon you would make some money because if we travel we need extra fuel and an easy spill free way of getting it into the car .

GQtdauto As you can see by the photo, the 20 litre drum I`m siphoning from are the style I have and I have a couple of 60 litre drums to siphon from too. I`ll have to get rid of that one way valve that`s inside of the bulb, so the flow is faster. Don`t know if you can see the right side is chokers, whilst the left side id a trickle. I`ll do some thing about it after I procrastinate long enough, or when I get bored and look for some thing to do.

Cmon mate the fate of the 4 wheel driving community depend on you , I know you can do it .
And hey you could make a few bucks .

I'm wondering how others do their decanting of fuel while touring.

Might end up with a double pumper version lol. I`ll have a gander at it. I thought if I post up some thing like this and or that Bush wheel winch(es) threads, people might start thinking about the subjects and create ideas of their own. It would be good to hear how others have siphoned their jerries and stories behind them.

Well, I poked and prodded the pump bulb, so it flows better than it did and now off to the patent number office to hopefully make millions.

Good idea but flow rate may be a killer.

I use a Jiggler Siphon (19mm will take about 2 minutes to do 20 litres).

Great tip I saw somewhere is if you use it for drums/jerries as opposed to vehicle tanks with bends in the fillers.
Get a bit of semi-rigid hose (like retic) and put it between the valve and the flexible hose.
That allows you to easily guide the valve to the lowest corner of the drum.

Had time to kill and needed some thing to do to keep myself amused, as you do.

Thanks for the tip! I'll give it a try next time.
