Update for Glennpatrick Reserve....
They are trying to restrict numbers at the ground at any one time so bookings are now essential.
They don't want to keep people out, but the place has become so popular that they are trying to avoid having too many turn up at once. Fresh eggs still available for purchase every day and they have done some tree pruning so there is no need to bring fire wood for a while. All donations for the upkeep of the reserve still gratefully accepted.

Contact Col on (03) 53548290 to make your reservation. I don't think you'll have a problem booking except maybe long weekends. One more thing, don't forget to pop into the Elmhurst pub for a coffee or for your bread and milk or even a beer.

I've camped at waterfalls camp site around there a couple of times. Some good 4x4ing and camping to be had.

So is anyone interested in a meet up at either the Pyrenees or Mt Cole?

I would be keen mate if you got something going. Early new year might work.

It is a very popular place. I've stayed at one of the campsites on the south east side of the mountain in early spring a few years ago. It had a huge shelter where we covered the sides with tarps and had a roaring fire. Chinamans was crowded when we drove through it. Unfortunately I took a trailer so missed out on some of the good tracks.

I was hoping to go before the fire season.

Good camping at Red Rock up near the summit of Ben Nevis. It's the hang glider launch site and I've never seen anyone else camped there (I hate crowds when camping). No facilities so bush dunny but that's ok.

And the views from there? Well in the words of the great Bruce McAvaney: Speciaaallllllll!!
