Stupid question for some but I need to know.

Can you get solid shells or at least a larger ball bearing shell for the 410 shotgun?

Had an emergency roo shoot yesterday, poor bugger was in pain and dying a slow death and the pellets took a few to kill it.

Hindsight I should've used the 22 but can you get solid shells or atleast larger ball bearings?

Quick google for .410 slug.

And then on Cleavers firearms site.

So yeah seems you can. Those hornady triple defence look interesting. Solid slug with 2 large BBs following it up.

We have a lot of road accidents in our area and are always seeing fauna on their last legs in the hills. I can't afford to get larger caliber at this time but good to know I can put a poor animal out of its misery properly if needed.

No, just a pic off images to make a point. Heard a few horror stories from farmers though. But in all honesty I think it would be ok with newer guns.

Agree with Mudnut, another vote for big balls (hehehe) rather than solids in a .410

Is your 410 choked at all? Solids are not a good idea with a choke.

How old is the 410 ? But for humane reasons no need to use solids just use at the most sg or bb size shot. Even shot size 1 or 2's would be plenty for humane reasons.

Shot a boat load of these without an issue. Blown barrels like that are normally caused by too much oil.

Have been using solids in both 410 and 12 gauge for years (no screw in choke) with no problems ,I take the under and over 410 with me when travelling because it packs down small .
Usually take a mix of shells with me so BB ,solid and from memory six shot .

Bought my Winchester 37A 12ga for $100 I think you NEED a 12ga by now
Or just use the 22 to the back of the head mate

ARB twin compressor with 20L-100+psi tank blast bolt is most humane, just don’t trip over the hose on your way through the scrub mate!

Don't think I want to get that close to an injured roo that is thrashing around! Caught a large ferral cat in a rabbit trap once (no weapon with me at the time). It was very interesting getting my trap back ........
