From my old dual fuel Range Rover I had salvaged a modern A&R Dual Fuel Electronic Ignition.
But my 'new' 1989 GQ was already fitted with a Piranha Ignition System. ....
Would it be possible to mate the two?
First contacted the maker of the Dual Fuel Ign. in the U.K. - (V8Engines) as friendly as but no conclusive answer.
Then contacted Piranha Australia - same story as friendly as but also no real help.
Eventually bit the bullet and started.
The Piranha appears to be a timing ignition only , not an amplifier. So I could use the output of the Piranha - which normally went to the coil - and connect that to the A&R input where normally the signal from the Lucas Range Rover or points distributor went.
Bingo !! Back in Dual Timing Business.
The A&R unit allows for a generous difference between LPG and Petrol timing.
In brief it works like this:
We tune for optimum LPG timing with the distributor.
Then switch to Petrol and see the timing retarded - this can be fine-tuned on the A&R unit with a small electronic settings screw.
That's all.
Here is a link to the A&R unit :

Good Luck !
