Sounds good Bigrig, im going to straddie & moreton over easter, but i have a 12 month permit to drive bribie ive not yet made the most of, so will be keen to go to bribie some time after easter (do you know if the bribie inland track is open again yet ?)

I think so ... Had a mate go there a couple of weeks ago and he didn't mention anything - his parents live there so I'll find out tomorrow ... Bribe is only just on an hour away from us, so always up for it. Moreton is the one that I find the most "secretive" - that is, it tends to get forgotten by the tourist and a lot of locals and is just an awesome place.

Look forward to a catchup mate - whereabouts in brissy you from (north or south)?

Im bris southside , i think Moreton is overlooked because of the cost of the ferry to get your car over, but now that the Amity Trader crossing is back in action, its actually cheaper for us (family of 4 & 1 car) to go to Moreton "from" straddie (thats inc the straddie ferry cost !)

I use a Canon 50D , my fav lens is a Sigma 10-20mm F3.5, most of these shots are with this lens.

Ha-ha, im only a amature myself mate, ive only been takin pics since last year.

Things you could try that have helped me get better much faster is, looking at shots from decent photographers, learning "what" makes a pic "good", then learn how to make the camera do what you want it to do, then have fun with it all !

Seriously good stuff mate!! Your shots are safe with us, but have to admit, they are as good as a lot you pay money for at any of the islands and tourists joints - you should at least list with the ferries and resorts at each of the islands - even a small percentage of the sale price might pay for some of your gear?? My wife's family were all just out from Croatia, and they bought a truckload of those sorts of pictures when they were over there!

Food for thought ...

Hi 04OFF,
Is that a photo of the Maheno?
All great pics again.

Yes, its the SS Maheano on 75 Mile Beach Fraser Island, most pics are from the other side that does not show the shape of the ship as nice ,you do need to be prepared to get wet on the surf side though, the hardest part is to avoid getting tourists in the frame ! (ha-ha)

Hi steve,
Mate I dont really know much about the springs and shocks as the suspension was in it when I bought the truck,
but from what I can see there is leafs removed from front spring pack that's about it.

I have removed the swaybar and fitted 2 inch body lift.

I don't even know if the springs are lifted springs or not.Always keen to help another mq/k owner but on this occasion sorry mate.

We stayed over on North Stradbroke Island on the weekend, great little place at Amity Point, sunset was really quite lame, so i decided to use my grad filter/s and some flash on the rocks to help things out a little.

Same place after dark, while we were there, some Dolphins actually swam right up to these rocks.

Thanks again for the kind replies, i do only take photos just for fun, i can go weeks without taking a single pic, often choosing to fourby rather than photograph, if we stop somewhere or see something cool on our holiday travels ,thats normally when i might get the camera out.

Although, I did just get our family offered free island holiday accomodation, in return for photos to use in their advertising, which i guess is really kinda cool !

Thanks for sharing your pics mate! They are awsome but they make me want to go and smash my "point and shoot camera" and take some photography lessons! LOL

Ha-ha, you don't need lessons (a half decent camera does help), but you can go far with just a bit of patience while having fun with it all, and just so you know, ive only had my own camera (of any description) since Jan 2010, ive never had a lesson or been shown anything by anyone, so don't think you cant get out and take pic's.

Very very nice. I can see those colours but I can't get a camera to reproduce them. Thanks for sharing Steve.

Simply beautiful camera work there mate. Absolutely brilliant. Seeing pics like these makes me want to get an SLR and take some lessons. Any tips for those of us who aspire to take pics like these?

Main thing id try first, is to practice a little image composition (where things are or will be in the photo), work out what you want to capture in the image, and perhaps what you don't want to see, sometimes backgrounds can make a huge difference to a subject, often moving the camera to a different position (sometimes only inches) can improve your overall image.

After a while you will "see" a good picture composition in you head (or see why it wont be good) before you even get the camera out of the bag.

You don't need a expensive camera to learn how to compose a good pic, in fact you dont "need" a DSLR at all to take great pics, but having interchangeable lenses makes a DSLR more versitile than the average point and shoot, and gives you more control to capture the image you can see with your eyes, or in your head (and sometimes you can capture things you can't see).

Once you've got a grasp on composition, you can play around with camera settings and learn how to get the camera to see what you want it to capture

These pic's (Jetty Hut, Kingfisher Bay) taken with my custom settings (manual mode), using a tripod, a wide angle lens and a long exposure, produce a image with colour on the horizon much more vivid than i could see with the naked eye at the time.......

http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j320/02ard/Favs/Kingfisha.jpg

http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j320/02ard/Favs/Kingfish.jpg

Don't they make you wish you were sitting there right now for a quiet beer ^ :049:

DSLRs are cheap now, but your "glass" (the lenses) can get very expensive, and the more variety of shots you want to take, the more glass you may find you need, i have spent more than my camera cost on lenses and still don't have every thing i want :(

Most important of all is to have fun playing around, if you don't enjoy it, i doubt its ever going to work for ya !

You MUST come to Fraser and show me how to take these sort of pics. I have just bought a Pentax Kr and a couple of lenses - but I really don't know much about taking a good photo. I guess these days quantity is the way to go. If you take a couple of thousand shots - then even if you know nothing about photography - at least ONE of them should be OK.

04OFF
23rd September 2011, 01:07 AM
Would love to come up, stay and play photoghraphy, not sure the funds are going to allow me to at this stage :(

Quantity will get "a" quality shot now and then, but you could just as easy end up with a 1000 garbagerus shots destined for the recycle bin, practice is good, but if you dont try and learn "why" a pic is good or bad, you will soon get sick of taking 100s of shots, then just deleting them all on the PC, all the time not knowing how get a good/better one.

For those who would like to learn a little more about photography there are some great sites about. I have worked professionally as a photographer and it is most certainly true that you do not need to have an expensive camera to take good shots. Here is a site I am a member of that has a large array of information, a great forum and there are no shortage people to help or answer questions that you may have. www.ephotozine.com

This pic was taken (with my 30D) on a 40ft Sail Boat (owned by my mrs's boss) its a very dull overcast ,but windy day out on Moreton Bay, we were supposed to be in a boat race (non official race), but due to bad weather the race was cancelled, we went out anyway.

http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j320/02ard/Axium2.jpg

Below is a link to show what the boat looks like normally (take note of how high the side windows are)

http://www.jeanneau.com/medias/CMS/bateau/voilier/Sun-Odyssey/409/doc/Brochure/boat-409_Brochure_20110707154140.pdf

As you can see, its pretty dodgey lookin ! (ha-ha)

I got to steer this boat for a while, and at times i had it on a greater lean than shown in the pic (great fun), it looks very cool from inside when the forward side window is "underwater".

The front cabin, boat on the lean (looking out underwater through the forward side window)

Truth be told, i never took any pics of the car Todd, my camera was in the back on the top of all our other stuff, which then of course ended up buried in the washing machine effect ,on the bottom.

My son took all the pics of the car having a sleep (and a small vid of the recovery) with his P&S camera, i will get the full story and pic's up soon, i just want to get all the "official/legal" type of garbage all finalised and out of the way before i "spill my guts". :)

Good thinking, who knows who could be reading your story and I'm sure if the insurance company read it twisted some words they would try and get out of paying the claim.

Not sure how damaged the car is, but if it does get repaired, speak to your insurance company and make sure the motor gets looked at as well ( oils, water etc ). I learnt the hard way :(

Yes, while im not too worried, as i know ive done nothing wrong legally or morally, i can't say the same about some others , i have not yet decided how to go about my story, but will most likley just tell it as i see it, and allthough this story will ultimately be one sided, it will be honest and factual, i hope with just a little time, it will also remove any emotion i may have from the story, so this will avoid any slagging and naming i may have thrown in had i have written it sooner.

At the end of the day, no matter what, im still here to tell the story, the car took all the damage and saved me from any injury, so regardless of what i may loose, i am always thankfull for that, and as you suggest, insurance company's are far from stupid, and have the internet too, id hate for them to mistake my happiness for life, for a disconcern about the loss of my pootrol !

I wish Todd, we just have a 1:10th scale electric jobbie, this was a club race day held by the Queensland Off Road Large Scale RC Club, they run 1:5th scale cars, with both 2 and 4wd classes.

A entry level car (like the one in the very first pic) starts at around $1700 (4wd) ,they basicly run a whipper snipper engine, but i heard some of the guys talking about "race" engines costing as much as $3000 (just for the ENG)

At that beach you are more likely to meet dogs and their humans, and the occasional racehorse being trained. All the good stuff you talk of Todd, is on the Eastern side of Moreton Island, the other side of Moreton Bay. Even the Western beaches of Moreton can include the features you speak of, including the waves.

Seriously though.. Are those pics straight off the camera or have they been run thru fotoshop even just a little bit?

Seriously, the first one was slightly trimmed/cropped/cut or whatever you wanna call it, just a small amount was from removed from the top and bottom of the image (this is normally as much as i do), sometimes its "cut off" to remove something i dont want in the picture, or to enlarge a object of intrest such as a car etc, but more often than not, its to just make the pic more pleasing to "my eye", i only use the basic software that came standard with the camera for this, and no, not even a little bit in Photoshop.

I do have a version of Photoshop, but i found it too hard to use, because im to lazy to spend hours learning it, or too stupid (or both), only twice have i used it on any of my pics, my "Rig Shot" image and one other pic on my wall, both was to remove a unwanted item/s, not to change the pic. (and that took hours of Googleing, lol), apart from that, i have only ever used the standard camera software to make small changes (mostly cropping if any) all other image influences are camera settings and filters/ lenses/operator, etc all done in real time as i shoot.

My goal is/was always to learn how to take good pics with the camera on location, not use the PC to "fix" em at home later, as thats never been "my" idea of "Photography"

So anyway, to actually answer your question Tonka, No Photoshop was used at all, apart from trimming the first pic, no computer changes were made, no colour saturation, contrast, brightness, trickery etc, etc, no modification in anything at all, 100% as they were dumped from the camera , then reduced in size and uploaded to Photobucket (this looses a fair bit of quality too), then simply posted for your enjoyment (or so you can hate me just a lttle more, ha-ha) :smiley_thumbs_up:

I'm glad you don't have time do it full time, if you did you might of come across all the calenders that I print up using your photo's and sell them as my own *LMAO*

Yes good work Todd, it is a shadow from a metal fence post/bar, not much thought into that shot im afraid, I quickly stopped the car outside the yard where this beast was on display, so im sitting in the drivers seat, camera pointed looking through the passenger window, shooting paparazzi style, outside the property at a distance of about 20M, just if only Tom Cruise could have been right next to it, id be rich by now :hpfredgeorge1:(lol)

*LMAO* Don't expect 2 much Steve, you can always just look back 2 this thread for photo's you have taken, while I'm sitting back on a deserted island somewhere drinking bourbons and beers :):):) But don't worry Steve with your money I'll buy you a GQ, so you will no longer have 2 worry about fixing up that GU of yours *LMAO*

How's that going anyway, any more updates? How long before being back on road?

Paint has been ordered, i heard them say its something like the words.... "ice pearl" and "xirallic", and from the explination they gave me, it will be white , but in the sun, you will see a subtle "sparkly" effect on the edges.

It should be painted by this weekend if all goes to plan, ill post some pics in my "rolled" thread as soon as i have any.

Record breaking 40+ days of no rain in Brisbane, and slight chance of it this weekend - still, shouldn't be an issue because of where you are doing yours. Looking forward to seeing the finished repair!

At Scottys place, i gave Troy a file with all his pic's ( large scale), it also contained the pics you wanted of your car Mat, i thought Troy may catch up with you sooner than i would, but I guess not then (lol)

Thanks mate, yeh i like the Crawlers too !, im not sure Rock Crawlers would make for "exciting" pics like cars that move fast and loose, well, it would depend on just how big the rocks are i guess ;)
