97 GU Patrol radio / cd problems.

Our radio / cd has decided to die ... all the lights and functions are working, but no sound. It did the same thing about 10 months age, and after about 3 week I replaced a tail light bulb and (coincidently) the radio worked again!!! It has just happened again, I have dismantled it, but nothing obvious (and I don't need to replace a lamp). Any ideas as to the problem would be appreciated, or perhaps we should say thanks for14 years service and buy a new one....

The problem described in Steam36's post has recently happened to me, though I did not have the tail light bulb thing, just wondering if any one had a view or thoughts on the this problem?? As noted in my introduction post at the time we have 1999 series 1 ST4500.
