How do you identify a gq y60 from a gu y60.

GQ's are the more superior of the Patrol series. They look strong with a tough boxy type design as below...

Gu's are ok, they are more city slicker type vehicles with smooth aerodynamic round corners as below...

Now, lets wait for the responses....LMAO

Y60 is GQ, GU is Y61
Michaelgeo, as per AB's photos Y60 (GQ) is the square shape that was built from approximately 1988 to 1998, Y61 (GU) was a more rounded shape and was built from 1998 on.

My post has been cleaned up :-) I feel positively squeaky clean now!! On a more serious note, thanks to AB and all the mods who keep the show in track!

If you are in Australia Michaelgeo, have a look at the VIN number on the firewall. For instance my Maverick, accepted as a rebadged GQ, shows GY60 towards the end of the VIN. I suspect most if not all GQs show that. And that most if not all GUs show GY61.

A mate has a mid to late 90s ute that he says is a GU. However it has Y60/GQ body. It also has some GU parts, eg front stub axles and bearing lock nuts. Weirdly it has also had an engine transplant according to Nissan spares man. While it has a TD42 diesel engine, unlike most, the fuel injector pump is down on the timing cover.

The GQ v GU posts were moved to the battle thread, not deleted.
