What size mig wire should I get?

I have a Cigweld Mig 135 here and I need to get some wire. I have a gas bottle here to use and was using 0.8mm gasless wire, before getting the gas.... MY local shop has 0.6mm or 0.9mm gas wire. It will be for general purpose welding, your usual RHS and angle iron type stuff. If i get the 0.6mm this might be better for real light stuff like panel etc, but maybe not so good for general steel welding. Not sure on this....

I use 0.8 for everything. It's fine for 1.6mm exhaust pipe or 10mm thick plate.
If I had something really thick to do I'd just swap the roll to 0.9 but I can't remember the last time I had to do that.

I would be more inclined to go 0.9 over 0.6. Maybe try a different place to get 0.8. It's pretty common.

If your gun and liner are suitable for 0.9, using 0.6 in it will be annoying. It's like the proverbial .... in a shirt sleeve.
I bought a Parweld gun for max 0.8 and it's really good. I have to switch guns if I want to use 0.9 now.

I have the same welder, will run 0.9, even 1.0. I however only run 0.8 in mine as it was most suited to my application.

The welder is a Unimig 240 and the original Unimig gun will take 1.0mm which makes the 0.8 sloppy in the liner.
The guns have Euro plugs so easy to switch over.

Not the same thing. The tip must match the wire anyway.
If your liner is too big for the wire size, you can pull the wire in & out 10 - 15mm and this can give you erratic wire feed.

I found Cigweld 0.8mm wire at Masters.
You can also use your 0.8 gasless wire with gas as well. I'm told it gives pretty good welds but I've never tried it.

I use .9 and it does the lot just adust the feed and amps for thinner material

Most tool shops sell it. Google some local welding supply shops too.

Thanks to everyone. I managed to find some 0.8mm gas wire. Man i forgot now good it is to weld with gas. So used to stick welding.
