I just bought and fitted one of these (http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/705-53470-19255-0/1?campid=5336709507&toolid=10001&mpre=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com.au%2Fitm%2FNew-7-HD-Dash-Double-2-DIN-Car-DVD-GPS-Sat-Nav-Player-Stereo-Head-Unit-Radio-%2F220849350286) following NissPats lead.

I was looking for a multimedia unit that had a GPS and could run OziCE, be able to play CD/DVDS, be able to run a flash drive (for music), have a reverse camera input, have Bluetooth for the phone and of course have an AM FM radio.

The fitting was pretty straightforward. Remove the panel that surrounds the stereo unit by removing two screws just above the heater controls, pry the cover from the bottom corners and "pop" off. Undo the 4 screws that hold the existing unit in place, unplug leads and aerial plug from the rear of the existing unit. Remove the mounting brackets from the old unit and screw onto the new unit, only 3 of the 4 screws will fit each side. Plug in the appropriate ISO and aerial adapters, bung it all back into the dash and Bob is your uncle.

For a GU IV built in 2005 the adapters I bought from Repco were Double diverysity lead Aerpro AP 348A ($12.99) to convert the Nissan aerial lead to "normal" male aerial plug and an ISO adapter APP0120 ($14.99).

The 12v wire for ignition volts and memory volts where a about t. The ISO adapter had one plug with the power leads fitted with bullet connectors, I simply swapped the yellow and red leads at the bullet connectors and all is now well, no memory loss (stations and other settings).

I have OziCE up and running, my reverse camera attached via the Aux video in cable, and the DVD "off except with hand brake on" disabled by earthing that wire to the body of the unit.

Out with the old

http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a44/timber93au/IMG_1696800x486.jpg

In with the new

http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a44/timber93au/IMG_01321024x683.jpg

Radio display

http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a44/timber93au/IMG_01341024x676.jpg

OK, 2 years down the track and the screen on the unit has died, would work for a short while when rebooted and die again, radio would still play in the background. I have now put the original Nissan unit back in and rely on my Tablet for GPS functions. I have an old Nokia hands free Bluetooth unit I'll reinstall for the phone.

Nice setup mate. That's the same head unit I have in mine. I had to do the same with the memory and ignition wires. I hope you don't have any hassles with it. Mine has gone back for replacement as the clock had a mind of its own and would randomly change the time. I lived with it though for 4 months but then the Bluetooth started dropping out. So had enough and asked for a replacement, for which I am awaiting arrival. I have a feeling my unit was a random dodgey one though - fingers crossed.

Mine also had problems with the clock changing times, seemingly randomly. I turned off the Auto time set in the GPS and haven't had an issue since. My assumption is there where conflicts between the GPS clock and the units clock, hope that is all it is.

Touch wood all else seems to be running OK, including Bluetooth.

That's interesting. I'll try turning off the auto time with the GPS and see if that makes a difference to the new unit (yep that one is doing the same), although I thought I'd tried this before or maybe not. Thanks for the info as I was about to pull it all out again when I got home from Hols as I was suspecting maybe something in the wiring.

I recently bought one of these http://www.engelaustralia.com.au/images/products/thumbnails/mr40f.jpg from Rays, on sale for $734, couldn't resist at that price. I will use it as a freezer to go with the 9 year old 50l Waeco.

As a consequence of buying that second fridge I needed a second fridge slide. I bought a Waeco SLD 060 slide http://www.waeco.com.au/getimage.asp?imageUrl=315_W_111205-SLD-60_web_2012_JCN.jpg&imageWidth=149from 4THE in Perth for $256 delivered to my door, best price I could find.

Also bought another 105 ah Fullriver AGM http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2012/06/1.pnglocally for $295 and associated cabling to instal that 3rd battery in the back with the fridge. Suddenly that cheap fridge has cost me heaps ;)

The last bit of kit was a barn door extension bracket off evilbay,http://www.patrolapart.com.au/uploaded/products/4dbf7db154188gu-door-bracket-2.jpg $24.50, that allows the second fridge to slide in and out without hitting the door.

Just need to keep an eye on charging to make sure the alternator can keep up with the 3 batteries when they are all being drawn on.

An update on the clock issue.

The clock did start to play up again, so the seller was contacted and finally supplied a software update. This update seems to have fixed the clock problem.

We have just returned from 3 weeks traveling through central NSW and Qld. The GPS worked well, the USB input for my music was great, and there where no overheating issues that some other units seem to suffer from, the unit was on for an average of about 6 hours per day. Ozi CE was also used for some of the more remote travels and it also worked well.

Update pic from Simpson crossing in June, got the alloys back on :)

You will notice I have gone back to the alloys, the offset on the steelies meant the tyres stuck out past the guards on the camper and where marginal on the Patrol.

Had my short pocketed pants on the other day and have now ordered a front elocker, 43% reduction gears and Boss rear spring tower brace kit. Should all be installed in a couple of weeks, can hardly wait to try it all out.

These were the last things on my longggggggggg wish list. Taken 6 years to get here, wonder if the mods will really now stop :)

............ and a couple of recovery points from Threedogs

Finally got the 43% gears and elocker installed, picked up the Patrol this 'arvo. Went for a bit of a spin in the back blocks of Hume, niiiiice.

Need to get out in the bush and get my moneys worth now!

Also fitted the Boss rear spring tower brace kit, not too sure about their value, my mechanic wasn't too impressed with them, I guess time will tell.

They are great for the driving I do. Steep up or down hill and the occasional tight slow bits, much better than the 83s I had a run in. Too low geared for other than rock crawling in my view. The only down side is having to stop to go into high range when the "faster" bits come up. Small price to pay for the benefits in my view.

Had a call from the mechanic today, been fixing an oil leak from the elocker wiring grommet on top of the diff, seems one of my indestructible AVM High Performance hubs has shit itself, stripped the splines I think he said. Will see when I take him my auto hubs to refit this 'arvo.

Had the AVMs for 2 years, (warranty 1 years :( ) not put too much stress on them so I am a bit disappointed. I had been told the HP versions where the ducks nuts, think I'll ring the ducks neck!

Off up to the Gulf, Arnhem Land, all the usual NT Parks, Ayers Rock and home via the Oodnadatta Track and the Flinders from ANZAC day to early September, the joys of retirement ;)

Well the big trip is over. 17,000ks of rough stuff and fun.

R&M The long range fuel tank developed a fatigue crack at one of the baffle welds, crack welded at Birdsville but opened up again at Coburg. Fix was a new tank in Darwin. Shocks finally gave up the ghost coming into Alice Springs, so new set of ARBs fitted there.

When doing long trips I budget a $ per k to cover everything (food, drinks going out for meals, park fees etc) and allow a contingency for repairs etc. This trip used up all the contingency :(

After arriving home, and major service, I notice a "funny" whining noise when under load, clutch in noise goes away, sort of sounded like transmission whine. Mechanic takes out rear tail shaft and goes for a run on the front diff, no noise. Diagnosis is rear diff, will need a bearing kit as minimum, plus check and adjustment etc, about $1,000 give or take. So given that the diff is out and it could end up costing more, the decision is taken to stick in an elocker (to match the front one) :) Due to get done next week.

Hopefully the last of the repairs for a while!

Hi from the UK
I say jolly nice truck - what he says in OTT english accent
but seriously love it
I have a td42 imported from Japan
it doesn't have an intercooler on it but i guess yours does by looking at the bonnet
would it be cheeky to have a photo of the underside of the bonnet and of the intercooler
I am about to order an intercooler kit and i was thinking of using a ZD30 bonnet
