December’15/January ’16 Photo Competition. (Note - the competition period this time is two months to take us over the Christmas & New Year period)

This month’s competition topic has been chosen by our November winner Winnie’s missus

Her choice is for this month’s topic is ‘Flora’. Everyone takes pics of plan life ..... don’t they? No excuses not to put your entries in this time around, if you don’t already have any suitable pics, you’ll have the holiday period to get out into the bush, garden or wherever with your camera.

Good luck all, & thanks Amy.

Ps. Please read though the pink bit below if you haven’t done so yet. Ta.

Pps. It always helps to post a brief explanatory caption with your entry.

Regards
Cuppa

Past winning photos can be viewed here. (http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/showthread.php?29697-Photo-Comp-Past-Topics-amp-Winners)

Monthly Photo Competition guidelines (Please read)

* Each month a new competition thread will commence & all forum members are invited to submit their photos .

* Maximum of three entries per person.

* Multiple entries should be made in separate posts

* Each entry should consist of a single photograph & a short description only

* Comments pertinent to entries are encouraged, but please do not use this thread to engage in banter

* Photos MUST have been taken by the member posting the photos or members of their party.

* Any photo which has been a winner will not be eligible for re-entry in any future competition.

* Please do not post photos that are not entries in the competition.

* Please do not re-post other folks entries within the thread

* The winner of the month's competition gets to choose the following month's competition topic.

Toward the end of the month the date & time of competition closure will be announced. Following this time the thread will be locked & the 'Thanks' counted to determine the winner.

* 'Thanks' may be added or withdrawn at any time during the month up until the competition is closed.
You are welcome to thank as many different posts as you wish!

* In the event of a tied first place I will add a casting vote, except in circumstances where my entry is one of the tied ones, in which case I will withdraw my entry.

*Inappropriate photos eg, sexual, racist, violent etc are unacceptable & should not be posted.

Thanks for your cooperation

Entry 1. Taken enroute to Ellendale Pool, Greenough. Ellendale Pool is about 45 Ks South East of Geraldton. Nuytsia Floribunda (WA Christmas Tree), which can grow up to ten metres in height and flowers between October through to January.

I love those WA Christmas trees, but haven’t seen them that big. Your shot shows why they are called Christmas trees, something I hadn’t been too clear about. There must be varying shades of yellow too, ‘your one’ is more orange than I recollect seeing. We had an overnighter at Ellendale Pool. Not a bad spot.

Something very strange is happening with my Flickr account or with this thread. The entries I had posted to this thread have disappeared. I have re-uploaded them multiple times but when I submit the post there is no pic. I just had a look at the past winners thread & the last 5 months winning pics are also missing. I’m at a loss. Can someone check the past winners thread for me & PM me to tell me if you can see all the pics or if the more recent ones are missing (with just the topic headings there). I doubt it’s a browser issue, but if others can see them & I can’t it might be.

In the meantime I have deleted my entries from this months comp, as there is little point with no pics.

Not sure if it’s coincidence but I can’t see Appollofish’s entries (the last 3 above this post) either.

Thanks Winnie. I think I’ve sussed out that it’s a problem at Flickr’s ‘Australian end’. Others are reporting the same issues on Flickr’s help forum. Someone suggested they had been able to make things work using a VPN & connecting via an overseas server. I just tried the same & can see all of Jack’s photos now - (I guess he uses Flickr too?) as well as all the pics in the past winners thread.

Phew! At least all those photos have not been lost, will just have to hope Flickr get things sorted sometime soon.

I’ll wait a bit to see what happens before re-posting my deleted entries.

This is a gumtree native only to Gippsland. When it drops it seeds from it's snatch block looking pod, they grow into Patrols.
The seeds are very rare to get to full size like this. Here is one Roofy found.

Ok, midnight & I’ve just finished what was supposed to be a simple re-plumbing job in the Tvan, fitting a water filter which believe it or has taken me around 6 bloody hours. One of those jobs that I just wasn’t prepared to let it beat me & I was staying out doing it until it was sorted. Geez I hate plumbing!

Anyway now to the comp. There has been a lot of close voting & I was concerned we might not have an outright winner, but in fact we have.

In First Place is TPC with 10 votes for his shot of an unusual plant which is is actually called a Cuninghams Birdflower.

A tied Second Place between SonOf & myself with 9 votes each. SonOf’s shot of Fungi on a moss bed, & my shot of Kapok.

Another tie in 3rd place, this one between 3 entrants with 8 votes each. FNQGU’ s Bee on a lily, OzJeff’s Bee on a blue flower & my Livingstonia palms in the Bungles

Well done TPC & thanks to November’s winner Winnies-Missus for choosing a topic which saw so many good entries.

TPC please let me know your choice of topic for the February comp when you can.

Well done gents.

That cunningham birdflower was sort of featured on the latest 4wd Action. One of the Aboriginal guides/elders taking Graham Cahill across Kimberleys, pointed the flower out to him.

Yep, we saw them up in the Kimberley, didn’t know they grew elsewhere too. Wikipedia calls it ‘Green Birdflower’ (as Tony did) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crotalaria_cunninghamii
Any chance you have a link to that video Hodge, I’d like to see it?

@ Cuppa I think Les Hidden used those fluffy seeds to start a camp fire once ,
then used some very waxy nuts to help light his camp at night,
loved watching that guy
