seeing as this section is such a lonely place, I thought it'd be good to try and lure in some WA members to post where they have been and what they'd rate the adventure

media would be good too, if you have some, I'd lead by example but that would need to wait till I'm home

Being down in Mandurah I've been exploring out around Dwellingup a few times, its a popular area.
Starting around here - google.maps.link (http://maps.google.com.au/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=&daddr=-32.768891,116.091135&hl=en&geocode=&mra=dme&mrsp=1&sz=16&sll=-32.770659,116.094375&sspn=0.009815,0.021136&ie=UTF8&t=h&z=16) - you can explore the hills and head out to some interesting locations. The point I've mapped is, I'm pretty sure, one of the hardest up hill runs in the area, I haven't seen a single fourbie make it up the dug out path up the hill. You'll know it when you see it.

Most people know about that though, and its been a while since I was out finding more interesting tracks in the area so I won't try and locate all of them in Dwellingup

There is a good track though, one you can use on your way to Dwellingup even, off Napier rd. Have a look on google.maps (http://maps.google.com.au/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=-32.682206,115.938699&daddr=&hl=en&geocode=&mra=mift&mrsp=0&sz=16&sll=-32.682261,115.94563&sspn=0.009825,0.021136&ie=UTF8&t=h&z=16) - alas my photos of last time I was up there aren't with me at work.
Its a bit of fun, has a few challenges, and you can just go explore up through the hills and eventually come out near Dwellingup.

So, does anyone have any new places that we should know about? or photos from some of the Dwellingup adventures? would be good to see something from WA :p

The first link is "Carnage Hill" on the edge of Lane Poole Reserve. The area around Carnage Hill is being logged at the moment and then the current Campground at Baden Powell is being closed. A new much bigger Camp ground with Kitchens etc will be constructed over the road and the Day Use area extended over the 'old' camp area. The inside word is Carnage Hill will be closed when that happens which is before Summer this year.

The second link is to the Fire Access Track off Napier Road to Scarp Road via the Plateau. Gates and Bollards have now been installed and locked (last week) at the bottom of the hill at the end of Napier Road next to the Farm and also at the top of the Hill denying access to the Fire Access Track. The only way in and out of the Plateau is now off Scarp Road.

The best alternatives and indeed with a lot more challenging terrain is to travel further down to Logue Brook, Harvey, Brunswick and Collie. Unfortunately there have been many logging Tracks in the Logue Brook and Harvey area that have either been graded to 2WD standard which deters 4WD's as there is no challenge or closed by DEC/Forestry. There are still a few good spots North and East of Harvey Dam however if you explore the area. The 'best' terrain is the forestry tracks down around Brunswick / Collie.

There are a few other spots but the odds of anyone posting them up is pretty low as they are jealously guarded due to more and more areas being closed off. We also have to deal with the Disease Risk Areas over here which are a) huge, b) usually where there was good 'wheeling and c) total no go areas as part of the fight to control Dieback

But... half the fun is exploring anyway and I agree with others in saying wack up a trip on here... you will get some people who will tag along and have a great day out for sure

thanks for the correct names
its a shame they have been putting in more gates and the like, i really enjoyed that access road run.

i've never been down to collie and brunswick for offroading, partly because i don't know where I'm going... do you have any locations you can put up with google maps? then I just need to sort out the other part of the problem, which is getting people to head down with us, as a lot of the folk i know with vehicles are up perth way and would rather us travel that way for something like powerlines instead of go on a novel adventure elsewheres

Try the Western Patrol Club Forum, there are members in Mandurah and further south... most of the Forum is locked but the trips calendar is viewable by non-members and guests are welcome. Trips get put up at shortish notice a lot so it pays to check back every now and then. http://westernpatrolclub.com/forum/index.php?action=calendar;year=2011;month=4

There are trip reports from the last few years that might give you some ideas as well

Brunswick, and Collie are not that far for a good day out, If someone puts up a trip, and i'm not working, just try and stop me from attending !
Even dwellingup is pretty good, and if there has been a bit of rain can be a real challenge. It's only an hour from perth and makes for some good fun.

So, does anyone have any new places that we should know about? :p

Yep, It's a fantastic spot for beach driving and fishing, free gas bbq, drop dunny and it's a secret spot that's reserved for me only. lol

Sorry for the hyjack. I can't seem to line my roster up with the Western Patrol Club's outing, so nominate a date and I'll see if I can be there.

Remember fire season is about to start, if it already hasn't. Maybe organize a trip for Autumn if you want campfires, when the restrictions have been lifted.

Take care out there.

I don't know much about Isralite Bay, but most of the strong wind warnings, ect mention IB. I went on the south coast last February for about 12 days and it was cloudy/overcast/light drizzle for 9 days, but the last 3 days were perfect. There were 'stingers' all over the beach and we weren't game to go swimming.

Having said all that, I absolutely loved it. We were camped in a totally self sufficient spot, and it was interesting to see how we improvised to get results. We're off to the same spot again this summer holiday.

Try Googling it and see how you go.

All I can suggest is that you take clothes for all seasons, plenty of ropes, ect, to tie down your campsite, lots and lots of mozzie repellant and a decent first aid kit.

Not sure what the fishing's like.

At that time of year, I'm pretty sure camp fires, ect, will be prohibited, due to the fire season, but check with local authorities.

Enjoy and take care out there.

I've taken the patrol for a trip in the yeagarup dunes a few months ago

Its located east of Augusta. There are some awesome dune climbs and if you follow the beach towards windy harbour there is a track which takes you back on the main road called summertime track.
great camping on the beach.

Is there a list of tracks etc in Perth with the degrees of difficulty??

No... not yet.

The WA4WDA is just starting to get a project running to train up some people from the Clubs to do exactly that tho. It will take a while for the results to filter thru I reckon but at least it is happening.

hey guys.. ive only had my licence for about a year and a half and have only a fourby for about a year and been away twice so far with my old man but if your going or thinking of planning a good trip

we went to cheynes beach and the second time we went to parry's beach and it was a blast.. really got me hooked on the 4x4 bug
its mainly sand dunes and beach driving. there are some gravel parts and rock climbs which were pretty tricky but still a whole lot of fun
good fishing spots too
so ever planning a trip away, definately dont pass these two places

Heaps up here in the Pilbara! Carawine South, the track to North Carawine and continue to Eel Pool. Sand dunes galore out at Condon, and fantastic camping at Greogory's Gorge. Theres heaps of scenic places all over, but those are my favorite 4wd areas.

The link below is to some tracks out the back of Prevelley (Margaret River) Was there yesterday and the tracks are moderately medium dificulty wise. Mostly hard sandy tracks with some dirt/stone in some spots. Head onto Baudin Drive and you'll come across a gate in the corner. It has no lock on it and the locals sometimes use this as it will eventually lead you out onto Caves road and around the cops whilst your drunk! Drive up track heading south and go past water treatment area. From here you can choose multiple tracks with awesome coastal views. Are a couple hairy steep hills but nothing majorly challenging. but if your into some spectacular views and fun sandy 4wding, than i reccomment this track.
