There will be no window.... Be a canvas back with zip window..... And down the track I will remove some of the roof to make it a soft top ... And have a canvas roof... Just for something different.

This is what the rear will look like. There bar will be removable

http://i223.photobucket.com/albums/dd171/jbiggsy/0429e5ff.jpg

So the rear wheel will be centred and the back door will swing as one...

x2 mate, I've been thinking of something like this...

Would love to hear about how you made it!!!

Forced Offroad

righto then,

1st step remove rear window....:tease:

Actually its pretty easy to remove, I prised the bottom out with 2 chippy chisels, and went from there. once you start you will get the idea how it removes.....

Materials.....
Piano Hinge......... Bunnings
http://i223.photobucket.com/albums/dd171/jbiggsy/Steel-Piano-Hinge.jpg

Dont have a finished photo...
But I used a product called Dibond sheeting.... plastic with aluminium finish, all different colours. 3mm thick
http://i223.photobucket.com/albums/dd171/jbiggsy/images-2.jpg

#Then I cut it out in the shape of the window frame...

#Pop riveted the hinge to the upper (under) window frame. cut to size

#I made about a 3mm gap all around....

#once the sheet was in the correct position. I marked hole for the hinge on the sheet....

#I used small stainless nut and bolts for a better look as you will see the nut head from the outside...

#bolt on sheet to hinge and see if all working well.

#main thing you need to look at is that the hinge and sheeting will sit flush with the car.

#from the i used Pinchweld with Side Blister, from clarks rubber.
http://www.clarkrubber.com.au/rubber-seals-and-mouldings/pinchwelds-and-bailey-channels-seals.html

this is the main seal. different sizes so choose the one best for you....
This worked the best as it will pinch over the pinchweld seems around the window and give you a water a dust seal...

Gas Strut.

#I used aluminium right angle.
#Screwed it to the inside of the car above window.
#it had about a 30mm drop below the window opening
#adjust strut to suit the window for opening and closing.
#bolt bottom right angel to sheet. Again I used bolt as they will be seen

The the lock.
i used 2 on each window. This gave me a great finish and worked well as they locked behind using the pinchweld seam.
http://i223.photobucket.com/albums/dd171/jbiggsy/toolbox-lock-276.jpg

Hope this helps....Its hard to explain.

Never had that issue AB. its a tight seal around the pinch seal. I did spend one night out in the bush on a very wet weekend, and had no problem... Same sort of seal set up as a camper/caravan door seal.

Check out 1min 20sec into this you tube on a camper.... same setup i used

gave myself a early mark today....

So started on the this little setup...
Removable mud flaps....
Will do a build up thread in the DYI section..

But in the mean time check out the pics..
There fully removable, box section gal and easy access bolt to unbolt and slide straight out..
Quick and easy, no more losing mud flaps on trips and keeping the finger crossed that the fun police dont pull me over on the way home....I know how much they love that fine...
First off get ready

Next thing is chain it up with a clip....
The mud flaps are rubber floor mate from super cheap..
All up $80....
And there more then sitting at 250mm from ground to bottom of mud flap..300mm is the legal hight..... should keep them happy..

dam.. what needs to get engineered and who are are you going to get to do it??

mate the bloke I was going through, has gone MIA... still trying to find him... Herd he will be back next month..
Need to get the blue plate done for the chop and child restraints. Should be fine as what I have done is a lot better then needs to be done....
At this stage I wont get it fully engineered just what needs to be done, and take the risk like all of us with hight/tyres size ect (4"and 33's).... Biggest cost will be a lane change test when I go for full engineering..
But when i bought the car i got a safety certificate and it was a pig, and now it drives 100% better and safer with all the aftermarket gear. Go figure and RACQ passed the car with 2 blown shock and a broken engine mount... But I new what I was buying as well, but still blew me away when it came back passed.

Well since my little mate helped himself into my house and my laptop.I'm putting forward the new fence to tomorrow. And thought I would give the winch and engine a bit of a working as the old girl hasn't moved for a year.
got the battery going which is good as i priced a optima. And $569 at the moment is a little to much.
Hoping to find a few hours this weekend to finish the bogging and painting and going for a sneaky drive. The car is registered and mod plated but not for the chop yet. The canvas bloke lives 10min away so will take it there to get measured up.

Hi guys. Just wondering why so many people are starting to do ute conversions? You can still only fit in the same amount of stuff right?

G'day mate, the main reason for my conversion is that my Gq got the GQ standard cancer (rust) in the rear sliding windows..... It was when i slide into a tree and opened up he rust....... It was really bad and was a doggy fix. So I chopped the back off.....
I also like the look to mate........
I still will be able to carry as much gear as I do, but less panel damage now and no rust.

no pics, but while looking into the ignition problem I had, cleaned up all the wiring from the conversion.... It was left in a really bad state, the only part i was not happy with.... all nicely tide together fuses in higher places.

I have the paint ready as well, a little bit of prep left and rear back wall to be finished.......then spray the truck, just not looking into tapping everything up....

I dont feel the need for that hight anymore, The country I drive and the comps I want to compete in Its to high. Im going to drop it down to 3'' lift with all the fruit which is more than enough. (I hope Im not putting myself out of a sale) and I can still get 35"s under the Gq.
Im going to base my qg on the winch style rigs out there, lower the better and they drive some pretty awesome country. And I was involved in these comp in the early 2000's and things have come along way since then....

Mate I have been involved in everything that has been done on my Patrol.... I picked it up for 6k and 6K for the v8 engine gearbox twin thermo fan Radiator with the purpose of being a winch truck. But all that has been thrown out the window with the cost of winches...... it just crazy.... So I've been taking my time (little to long) and going to purpose build if for smaller fun comps and short touring and trail rig....

going to turn my double door into one...make a Bracket off the rear door for spare wheel and finish it with a comp style wheel lock nut... This way I can still use the original wheel mount when I go on longer trips.

The wheel will sit right onto the high lift jack and act as the main support.
even though im pulling the pin on the bigger comp I wanted to run in... I still love the look of the winch trucks....

Started the rear bar tonight. Rear lights are not set in yet. But give you some idea. At this stage it looks the same as the rest but hopping my addtions will make it stand out. Will have a flat plate for the lights to sit on and also a tow hitch. I'm sure the tow hitch has to be DOT rated. But in my case it won't be. (naughty) but it will be braced bracketed and bolted in 5 different locations and good old lot of mig welding. Could be more by the time Im finished.

So far so good. Unfortunately the super cheap auto pipe bender can't do the type of close bends I'm after due it's bending radius and i dont want to waste pipe. Being a plumber it would be nice to have my standard benders in a larger model, but this works great for things like this.

How the rear wheel and high lift jack is in this photo is the weekend 4x4 trips.
I have a rhino plat form roof rack on its way, it will be custom built to sit as a rack above the tub area. So not only can I carry gear in the tub but on the rack as well.

As I have mentioned I have alway wanted to have a winch truck, but as I'm now 10 years to late from when I was 1st involved with a winch truck, I myself just can't afford it at this stage. As a winch these days is more expensive than the truck itself. :(
So instead I am trying my best to make this patrol look as different as I can.

And after getting let down by the engineer i have found myself a better one. He Has been so easy to work with and knows his stuff..... And best thing is ,since I have taken my sweet arse time the rules/laws have changed and made things easier.
As the cab cut are getting more common it just has to be certified by a compliant engineer and when he is happy with everything...

Big news, moved patrol from the build area to the front to try and jump start the other Datsun.

Reckon she looks bloody cool and different. Not long now , and have a different idea on how to share the love I have spent on this old girl to you all.

Sending the Patrol into semi retirement. I have had no time of late to work on the truck as I have a new non nissan 4x4 where money and time Actually out off-roading.

I still have plans for the old girl but at his stage I am taking her off the road.
Very much man sad that it has come to this and I don't have it in me to sell the old girl. Plus I like this forum...

I hope when it comes to re-registering the truck Qld transport will play nice...:p

I still feel once this truck when complete will be one very different looking qg patrol. (I feel its possible)
