Gday folks, so the other weekend i changed swivel hub seals. Was cleaning everything up and have decided to change the wheel bearings. (next payday) So am cleaning and repacking my CV's with new grease. I found evidence of water ingress namely reddy brown grease. Now below are a couple of photos of what they look like. One of them the ballbearings have surface rust on em the others just stained. Do you rekon this is gunna be an issue? You wouldnt classify as a high speed joint as such would you? Ok its ur axle and that moves fast but is the movement of the CV action fast? Also theres Hot spots on both CV outers where the b allbearins are is this normal?

Cheers all

The CV with surface rust on the balls I would be replacing, the rough surface will cause accelerated wear within the CV.
The hot spots on both CV cases also has me a bit worried as this could be a weak spot. It's normal to see some heat discoloration on the CV case but it is an even color around the case, not hot spots lik you have.

MMMMMMM the discoloration is blued from heat at the exact location of each ball bearing. The old girl was originally a mine vehicle then worked in the bush on missions so i'm thinking corrugated roads for hrs at a time could something like that be the cause.

That's what I'd reckon - one of those 'under stress' components that I really don't want to trust to a company sourcing them from the cheapest bidder!
