Knocked this up other day a dashpod. Houses my 2 x radios and has 3 x 12v outlets.

its not that much different to the ones you can buy from Consoles.com.au

but it would have been a hell of a lot cheaper

thats for sure

I like the old Pierce Simpson CB.........

often think about fitting it, but not sure if it would get used or be a waste of time

How have you run wires into dash and how have you secured it? I'm torn between overhead or dash console.
I'm tall to head safety is my no.1 issue with over head.
But securing and wires is my concern with dash mount.

Mate, I've got an overhead console, the one that runs along the top of the window, not the centre. Never even come close to bashing me head

Hi Westy I ran wires/cables out the back of pod, it then runs along the bottom of the windscreen. I didn't want to drill big holes in top of dash. I had a GQ years back with a prof built dashpod (Department of interiors from memory)and I remembered it had a flat thin bit of sort of like tin at the front which slid under the dashtop and between radio facia (Hope that makes sense. and the rear of it utilises the main dash bolts near the demister vent. I copied the front design but I remember what a cow of a job it was mucking around with factory dash bolts theyre very close to windscreen making it hard accessing so I used L brackets instead at the rear/side and screwed into metal part of dash so good and secure. tHe wires are only seen where it comes out of rear to windscreen so not far and from there reasonably well hidden. I had a dashpod like this one in pic in my old patrol and used its mounting design

I had both in my GQ, dash pod & roof console
while I never hit my head, some passengers always did

like Sharky's early one, mine was a Dept. of the Interiors Dash Pod
unlike Sharky, I never had a problem with the bolts near the windscreen
and
I had the cables go through the same hole as the right hand bolt (made it more interesting trying to get it in or out for mods)

I had a clock and an Inclinometer in mine,a as the UHF was in the roof console
61005
(was out of a 60 series)

Yeah I probably prefer your console than mine, Although great storage but I hit my head on mine a lot.

Westy I took a pic of where I ran wires/cables for top mounted radio. I could get a good enough pic of other wires/cables coming into the back of console, Sorry best pic I could get
