View Full Version : TD42 alternator on right side? Looking for pics

I'm researching different possibilities for my TB45 to TD42T conversion.
One of the major issues is having to get A/C hoses made to fit if I keep the alternator in its original position.
If I can mount the alternator on the right side, and it certainly looks possible, I'll not only keep my A/C system intact but I can also retain all the TB45E steering pump, lines and coolers.

I'm equipped to make up my own mounts so no issue there.

If you have your alternator mounted on the right, would you be kind enough to post up some clear pics of how it was mounted.

Thanks!

Here you go mate. A couple of alternatives for you.

Here is my 24v second alternator mounted on the power steering pump belt.

Note the mount has modified the belt tensioner for the power steering and also modified the thermostat case

Alternatively, here is a second Alternator mounting point Above the AC off the AC belt. I like this as its high and the AC stays high. I might mount a second AC compressor for endless air like this...

Cheers mate, much appreciated!
I won't have the PS pump there so I'll have a bit more room which I'll probably need anyway to accommodate the vacuum pump on the alternator.

If I can get this to work it will save me hundreds..

I'd be really interested to see the mounting where the right side alternator pivots.
I've started making a mount that attaches to the 4 bolts where the cast PS mount was but it's part of the alloy timing case and I don't feel comfortable putting too much load on it so I'm thinking of extending a leg down to the RH engine mount bracket on the block.

I have the sump off at the moment so I'll braze a fitting in on the right side for the oil return.

Well finally got my RH side alternator with vacuum pump sorted out. I've used the power steering mounting points on the timing cover with some extra support and adapted a TB45E alternator adjuster.
I've taken the oil feed for the vacuum pump from a 1/8" bspt fitting in the block under the filters (avoids fitting a T piece to the oil pressure sender) and I've fitted the oil return to the sump.

Oil return from the alternator. I've welded a couple of 8mm nuts inside the sump to fit this adapter. The oil pressure feed can be seen there on the right with the black plastic cap over it..
