Anybody is welcome to join us. Newbies, families etc with any skill level. It may just be the case that its decided you should give certain tracks a miss on the day
Having a rated front recovery point is a absolute minimum requirement but would be preferable to have your own snatch strap and recovery kit

Potential track list:
Looking at doing the following tracks ( time and skill level dependent)
Luke's Creek no1 - The name of this track is awesome
Aeroplane Track (http://4x4earth.com/track/?track_id=1603_toolangi-aeroplane-track)
Rocky track (http://4x4earth.com/track/?track_id=225_toolangi-rocky-trk)
Perhaps Reds East and Reds West for those that want to give something harder a go

I just had a quick look and Google reckons about 2.5 hrs, so even if I say 3 he's, 9:30 or 10:00 am are still no problem instead of 11:00. If you want?

10:00 am is still a good time for me. Weather could be anything :) I'm gonna keep Sunday free, just in case camping comes off. Might change my mind if it is really pouring down, ha ha. Let's just see.

Kev it would be great if you could make it. This kicked off from your thread from last year. Hopefully it will fall into place for a few others too when it gets closer.

Righto, lets hope the weather holds off and we can make the most of the full weekend.

Some of those tracks will be a challenge with ats (not to mention my balding mts) but its hard to get out on a trip so dont pass up the opportunity.

in addition to mine, how many winches have we got coming?

Yes, I have a winch. But for the unsuspecting, I've now got a Jackaroo, not a Patrol.

I've got fairly new muddies and front locker. Will be interesting to see how it goes. Looking at youtube videos of the area I'm expecting to use the winch/get dragged about. Especially if it is wet.

lucus30

Aeroplane is the only clay/mud track I'm planning on hitting. The rest are rocky but happy to do whatever at the end of the day

Yes I have a winch as well.

@Stonewall: I would suggest a min front rated recovery points but the rest we should be able to work around on the day. The harder tracks like airplane and the others mentioned might not be suggested for beginners to try anyway especially if it is wet. There is always a way around it though so feel free to tag along that is what this is all about.

In all seriousness though I'm not sure anyone should be heading up rocky without a minimum front locker, sliders etc it will damage sills and vehicles, Friday is raining, it will be wet.

If you are 33" tyres and under without protection you will be hitting your steps guaranteed in the wet.

Aeroplane is actually quite boring now. Drive up, plonk yourself in a pit, winch up.

We should go up old toolangi rd for a look or even go up marginal, wee track, east west tracks for assessment of members going and explore other areas, etc.

There is a mountain of other tracks!

Seen as you & Rossco know the area better than I. We will go with what you think will be good on the day

Got any thoughts about campsites? I was thinking we will try to be at the campsite around 4pm to get setup before dark
The only other restriction is my wife will be driving her car and we will be leaving it somewhere that I can easily drop her back to in the evening

We met some dirt bike riders on that blowhard track, man those guys do it tough when it's clay steep hills!

They were trying to walk their bikes down the hill, dropping the bikes, sliding down and then trying to pick their bikes up knee deep in crap!

Credit to them though, hitting some decent tracks!

I watched a lot of "fancy" dirt bike riders at yarra glen car car wash rock up with a sprinkle of dust on their tyres.

Yes big thanks to Chantal Luke.

Those bikers were struggling especially the bloke that had the one that wasn't running, I had turned around and was heading back down right behind, he was trying so hard to keep out of the mushy ruts and was doing pretty well until it a bit narrow up the top and his bike just slid straight into the rut. you see see how peeeeed of he was he was just shaking his head, you could see he was so close to just dropping it and jumping up and down on it.

I am also in the process of loading mine up, I gave up trying last night.

Far out I have just got off the Phone with a bloke I work with, I saw them on the side of the Melba hwy yesterday just as we came out. He reckons they got royally F$@%!& up by the rain. they only got out of there at 2am, they went in with I think he said 9 cars and came out with 3. From what I can make out it was pretty much the first track, they went in the way we came out but I describe rocky track to him and he said it wasn't that one, he said it was sloshy clay stuff with some boulders in places. I don't think it was from lack of experience they just got caught out on a track when the rain came down and it just turned to s#$%. One lost brakes, another wouldn't start anymore, he nearly burnt out his 12000lbs warn and fully drained his batt, they are going back in to try and get the rest of the cars out if the conditions are better.
I am so glad we got out of there when we did.

Ooh yeah, can't let that teeny weeny little hill get the better of you (wouldn't mind having a crack too). Dare say it will be after Melb cup, it'll be closed after this weekend.. . Guess there's no rush for the high mount or lockers then. . . . .

It was probably only another 500 m up if that from the other turn around spot. Will definatly have to head back when open to revisit. . .

Far out that was pretty insane. It's amazing how much difference that little more angle makes, well it looks reasonably steeper there.

For those that missed out due to injuries. There will always be a next time. The most important thing is to look after yourselves

Anyone heading out Toolangi way over the next month or so? My car is out of order currently but if you round up a crew or anyone else interested I would be keen to be a passenger. It's killing me not getting out this season!!!

Yeah I'd be up for a squirt if I'm around I'd have a seat 4 sure. Yep wouldn't mind doing a few little trips soon, bloody PITA bout the GQ AB but don't worry will be able to get out. It's always fun driving but it's also good letting someone else trash their truck whilst drinking beer. . .[emoji6]

Dual Lockers! Look out! When you get those Luke? As for me, I'm out unfortunately because we are trying to finish the house off and clean up pre sale.
