May ’15 Photo Competion - ‘Fishing’

This month’s competition topic has been chosen by our April winner Nisshead

His choice is
Fishing - many of us like to use our Patrols to take us to places to wet a line from time to time. Some of us even catch a fish occasionally!

Entries can be anything to do with fishing regardless of whether you actually catch anything or not. Could be your catch, your gear, your means of carrying your gear, the camaraderie - anything goes provided you can relate it to ‘fishing’ - even if you have to dangle a hook into your aquarium!

Good luck all, & thanks Nisshead

Ps. Please read though the pink bit below if you haven’t done so yet. Ta.

Pps. It always helps to post a brief explanatory caption with your entry. ;)

Monthly Photo Competition guidelines (Please read)

* Each month a new competition thread will commence & all forum members are invited to submit their photos .

* Maximum of three entries per person.

* Multiple entries should be made in separate posts

* Each entry should consist of a single photograph & a short description only

* Comments pertinent to entries are encouraged, but please do not use this thread to engage in banter

* Photos MUST have been taken by the member posting the photos or members of their party.

* Any photo which has been a winner will not be eligible for re-entry in any future competition.

* Please do not post photos that are not entries in the competition.

* The winner of the month's competition gets to choose the following month's competition topic.

* All members are encouraged to vote for the photos they think should win. This will be done by pressing the 'Thanks' button located underneath each post. Toward the end of the month the date & time of competition closure will be announced. Following this time the thread will be locked & the 'Thanks' counted to determine the winner.

* 'Thanks' may be added or withdrawn at any time during the month up until the competition is closed.
You are welcome to thank as many different posts as you wish!

* In the event of a tied first place I will add a casting vote, except in circumstances where my entry is one of the tied ones, in which case I will withdraw my entry.

*Inappropriate photos eg, sexual, racist, violent etc are unacceptable & should not be posted.

Thanks for your cooperation

North of Broome. Yours truly off to catch some bluebone for dinner off the exposed reef at low tide . I used a rod & my ‘mentor’ used a handline. He caught way more than me. Bait was hermit crabs removed from their shells. Fish cooked whole on the fire & eaten by scraping it off the bone with sticks.

What is it about carp that you guys don`t like, introduced species?
Yep. Their a pretty big problem over here. Big populations outcompete native species and also being bottom dwellers stur up the bottom and destroy habitat. In most states (maybe all??) it's not legal to return them to the water.

@ Gaddy wheres the pic of that 'Blue " fish you caught by hand in the surf,?

@ Fracster,, carp are a huge problem in Aust, another great idea from the powers that be,
along with the cane toad ,,rabbit and the Fox. Even trout are an introduced species, I believe 16
were released around Flowerdale,, Victoria many moons ago.

My son with the fish I should have caught. It was my turn to drive the boat as we were trolling up the gutter and I saw the bow wave of the fish as he came off the bank so I steered across in front of him and bingo this is the result. 107cm long and weighed just over 9kg. Several others bigger than this one have been caught recently with one 125cm at 13.034kg a Queensland record by one of our fishing club members. It is a threadfin salmon for those not from the north.

99cm is my biggest but we regularly get up to 110cm in my mates boat (still waiting for my 100cm+ one tho) all on plastics and micro jigs... mainly with micro jigging rods like the Gomuku's.

Plenty of fish in 13kg, seems the 1mtr mark is common for catching a Murray Cod or Barramundi
I have not come close on either 750mm biggest and
only Barra Ive caught and about 600mm is my biggest Cod, both off the bank
barra on a lure and cod on scrubbies

Softy

I used to do a fair bit of stream fishing for trout with lures biggest was 51cm. Never really chased Cod or been up to the top end to chase Barra but it is on the wish list! Once i get the GU set up i plan to do a top end trip and will have a crack at the 1mtr barra!

Everything was going well till a shark head floated by, I did walk on water lol.
Cleaned my pants and threw a 6" Nilsmaster black and silver lure in and skull
dragged a 750mm Barra out, Want to catch a 20lb fish use 60lb line no point

Well, as has already been said we have had a number of great entries this month .............. & the outcome has been close. However we do have a winner.

In first place 17 votes with his brilliant shot of a jumping salmon is our pommie mate Fracster

http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2014/09/27.jpg

Close behind & in joint second place with 16 votes each are Nisshead for his Marlin (& hat) & Bob’s ’serenity on the Murray’.

http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2015/06/22.jpg

http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2015/06/23.jpg

Close behind again in 3rd place with 14 votes is Nisshead (still with hat) again, this time with a well framed shot of him holding what I believe to be a large tuna?

http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2015/06/24.jpg

Plenty of votes were spread around all entries reflecting their quality & the interest in the topic chosen by last month’s winner Nisshead (who almost made it two months in a row). Thanks Kris.

June’s competition topic will be posted in the near future chosen by Fracster.
