I remember these, my dad had one on his 1959 Zephyr. They do collect bugs I remember.

We had an aluminium one on our bus, together with a mesh stone guard across the window. It worked *really* well (& wasn’t too bad with bugs). Only thing was when road trains passed their bow wave could give it a fair thump, even though the mesh allowed the air to pass through it. (Certainly wouldn’t have wanted a solid one). We had a vertical aluminium support in the middle of the windcreen between the visor & the stone guard. Without that I’d wonder about the long term effect of road trains & corrugations etc on the mounting points drilled into the car. Even with the additional support our mounting holes had enlarged a little over the years, still did the job but needed occasional re-tightening as a result. I’m half tempted, but not super keen on drilling the holes into the pillars.
