View Full Version : Another great high country weekend

Just came home from another quick high country getaway. Our original plan to go east to Dargo area was shelved due to rain forecast , so quick alternative was a short drive to howqua river near the running creek camp ground ( we go there often).

Extremely wet friday and saturday, but fire lifted the spirits. All considerable tracks in the vicinity which are normally fun, were out of the question, so not much off-roading was done, but otherwise great weekend.
The river went up massively saturday afternoon and kept going up, and it was getting a bit interesting as we were somewhat trapped if it went up too high. But all was good as when we crossed to go home it was just hitting the top of the arches, but current still managed to nudge the car to the side a meter or so.

Yeah mate despite the weather it was glorious. That little spot is shielded by hills nearby from all sides, so virtually NO wind right next to the river.
And we weren't really in the true high country either, just the very start of it. Packing up to leave was such a downer... Already planning the next one! Can't wait.

Rising rivers can certainly trap new players in the area, we used to mark the height on arrival.
As it could be raining miles away and turn conditions, well lets just say tricky if your not aware of it.
Plenty of wood too by the looks of it, equal happy campers

Yeah mate. We had enough firewood for weeks as DEPI cut up massive trees that have fallen down days prior, so we were just chipping away at it. It was my first time camping in rain like that and couldn't believe we actually had a decent fire going despite it getting soaked.

And yeah we marked the river as soon as we got there and monitored it well.
