We just got back from Margaret River.

56310 56311 56312

Had a couple of days in motel there, but thought we would have some fun while we were there, so we went down to Boranup Drive which the local tourist map says was a four wheel drive scenic drive.

56313 56314 56315

Found that a little tame so we made our own way off that road onto some of the other roads/walk tracks off Boranup Drive.

56319 56318 56317
56316 56320

Found a cave not open to the public. Its called Nanup cave. Not allowed in without a permit.

56323 56322 56321 56324

Anchor Drive, Arumvale road and Boranup Beach Road.

56325 56326 56327 5632856329 56330 56331 56332

Overall a real good day. Boranup Beach Road is about as far as I would go without another vehicle. Its narrower than it looks and no turn around if you hit trouble. And yes, I have got radio in case we got onto trouble. Interestingly after leaving the main drag we didn't see another vehicle.

Bugger, I'm back in Perth now. Not to worried about the scratches, my son is a car detailer. My side is Ok all the scratches are on the missus side - don't know why.

Great pics mate. It is quite nice down there. A few mates and I went down there and spent a week camping in the bush for leavers, fun times. We were not that pre-pared didn't even have a bbq. I suppose we had tents though.

Didn't see or hear anything about recovering from the fires. Recent fires were a bit south east of this area I think. Margaret River is a bit of a farm town, wine town and surf town. Good coverage of the tourist market in the area from high end villas to backpackers. Close to farming, and farm stay places, close to surf beaches and also close to winery,s, chocolate factory and the like. Plenty to see and do, and of coarse some 4wd tracks from easy to bloody ridiculous.

Lovely shots mate and thanks for sharing. @ Threedogs, just to add to 4bye4's great description - there are some ripper wineries in the area, being warm weather, the wines tend to be lighter than those over your way (central Victoria eg Brown Brothers). A few more down south further in the cooler climate heading towards Albany (Plantagenet Wines in Mt Barker is one of my favorites - http://www.plantagenetwines.com/). Albany has about the same temp and weather as Melbourne (give or take a degree or two).

Yep - Pemberton still on the list. That Pemberton/Northcliff area may be where TD is thinking of the fires and smoke damage to grapes.
Not enough weekends in the year.

The fires they are thinking of were probably the ones that hit Prevally/Gnarabup a number of years ago now, if you drive towards the Margaret River Mouth you will see it. On another note the folks have land down near there which could potentially be used for a meetup.

thanks for sharing. looks like a place I would love to see. You just got to love Australia and you need a 4wd to see all of it.

I went camping a few times here and there in the south west. One place I do remember going to, it was on the Donnelly River near Maranup. Go through Bridgetown and hang a right on to Brockman HWY after the old traffic bridge. Karri Gully is another nice spot, which is about half way between Bridgetown and Nannup on the Brockman HWY. Never had a camera in the early years of camping and I wish I did.
