Hi all,
I've been looking for a roof basket that will fit on my single cab GU.
I have and ex telstra service body and want to put a couple of jerry cans of fuel on top for a particularly long leg. Would rather not put them on top of the body if I can avoid it.

I've been toying with the idea of putting some sort of fairing on the front of the body anyway so thought a short basket with a sloped front that would take a couple of jerry cans would be a good solution. Then when I am done with them I can lye them down but also have the bonus of a small luggage rack to chuck the occasional bit of fire wood into if needed when approaching a camp site for the night.

Well aware of the need to keep the weight on the roof as low as possible.

Any ideas appreciated as I havent had much luck searching.
Cheers
Stephen

Cant fit the jerry cans to the back of the pod or are there wheels there.
Other than that a couple of Rhino Aero bars and basket might suit your needs.

As for fire wood collecting a while back I made from 15oz canvas such a device.
It looked like a stretcher the wooden handle would be buckled to the bullbar
then lay out in front of the 4x4 fill with fire wood then lift the 2nd pole up and buckle that
to the top of the bullbar as well. Only for use when closed to camp and perfect for desert trips.

Hi Threedogs
Two spare wheels on the back.

I have the rhino racks what I cant find is a basket that is short enough.

The stretcher idea sounds great. I will look into that, it is only for when I am close to camp so wont be carrying it for long distances.

Cheers

Yeah the stretcher is perfect for walking pace as you can lay longer logs in it.
Why not get a platform made up,? What area are you in Im just about to remove my roof platform
and fit a roof rack I brought from a member here

ARB make a roof rack to suit utes but $$$$$ I would think

I don't know the dimensions of the cabs roof but would something like this be too big?

Something like this is exactly what I'm after
http://www.4wdsupacentre.com.au/products/roof-racks/alluminium-roof-racks/premium-alloy-rack-90cm-guttermount.html
If it was about 25cm shorter it would be perfect
At 90cm it's a tad too long, it might fit and hang off the front a bit but I'd like to avoid that if I could.

Another option is something along these line
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/250922579490

becuase it looks like it might be easy to cut down to size, just not sure how strong it would be.

Cheers

That look like a Rhino systems basket, I cant see how you couldnt down size it a tad to fit.
Is 25mm that big a deal???

I have a 90 long x 120 wide x 10 high basket on my Ute.

It is the "clamp to the roof bars" style and fits my Rola bars perfectly.
Found it at Super Crap at 40% off for about 80 bucks or some such.

Perfect for small loads, roof bags etc
I have mounted an underslung 240 watt light bar across the front as well

ooooh just like this one

Nope, not much like it at all really

Mine is rectangular not diamond shaped like the one in your link
... which would be hard to mount, look pretty crap and the light bar would be pointing at the paddocks

Good find...

Not exactly cheap but as it comes with it's own mounts etc fair enough.
I must admit the clamps on mine that attach to the bars can be a PIA

My Supercrap basket is a tad bigger but my truck is also a king cab so has a bigger roof
