one of my led indicator lights is very dim. it is in the trailer somewhere as I tow other things and they are fine no idea

one of the indicators on my camper is very dim whilst in use it can hardly be seen. I know the fault is not on the car side of things any ideas

You either have a short in the trailer wiring or one of the indicator bulbs in the trailer is of incorrect wattage.

leds.......so it will be a short somewhere

Or a bad earth on that light.

I have pulled the thing out cleaned everything but im kicking myself for not testing the voltage

Aaaahhhh... now that the missing words are in there... ROFL

If the Light Assy is easy to remove, test the LED across a battery.
If it is still dim it is the Driver Circuit in the LED and you need a new lamp assy.

If the LED is bright you have a wiring issue.

If it is wiring and it is a stand alone blinker check how the Light Assy gets to earth.
If it is a combo and the brake and/or clearance LEDS are bright then your earth is OK and it must be power.

Check the pin and connection in the trailer plug and if that is OK follow the cables looking for damage
