View Full Version : Starting axle into carrier

Hi,

Once the axle is inserted into the spline less part of the carrier, or whatever it id that the axle goes into inside the diff, are there any tips for getting the splines to engage and thus allow the axle to slide the rest of the way in?

On the couple of times I have done this I have resorted to ignorance, bad language and frustration - and eventually the axle has slid in.

Would welcome any tips or tricks to reduce frustration :1062:

I've always found just rotating the axle slightly is enough to get the splines to line up and the axle to slide in.

If the same as real truck axles, there is a taper just before spline try to lean down on stud end of axle so as to allow spline to rise upto center and feel for the fit.

thanks!! will try both
We ran into a new problem today on the mate's ute - the replacement CV is too big to fit into the trunnion housing on the end of the diff - even with the flat spots on the CV lined up. Suspicion is that it is a bigger CV to suit a turbo.

The bigger CV is most likely out of a GU.

That sounds like the problem as their isn't any differances with turbo vs non turbo CVs
