Hi folks,

We have been inundated with spam lately so to combat this I have put a heavy restriction on members who sign up and have not confirmed their email.

If you do not confirm your email when you sign up then you will not be able to post anything.

We currently have 5000 members who are in this list, if you find that you are already a member and cannot post on the forum, then click this line here (http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/contact-us.html) and fill out the contact form with your email address and your username and I will sort you out.

A lot of the 5000 members were spam and non regular members so hoping this does not restrict people.

Anyways, some spammers will slip through if they get their email confirmed but this should knock a lot of it on the head!

Note: when you sign up, the forum will send you an email to confirm you are real. This may take a minute or two to send the email as well so please be patient, it will send you an email if you put the correct email address in when you signed up.

Try this boss

http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/search.php?searchid=4255216

There will only be a handful of legit ones in there, can usually tell by the members name if its a spammer or not

Edit: might not be as bad as first though as some are already banned but links are still there :(

Relentless little buggers aren't they....

Hats off to them though, thats a good little sneaky trick as no one really sees it. They all need to confirm their email from now on so this will all be minimized and It's a PITA for them and they will run out of email addresses soon. I'll clean this crap up during the week.

And just change the date to the last week and newer to get the most relevant ones

Is there an easy way for you 2 do it or is it all one by one removal?

Its not looking good, I dont mind doing it mate. You just bring the search result up and middle click each result to open them up in a new window and start deleting...Still a crap job though.

I doubt this will stop them. Its pretty easy to sign up to one of those temporary email services. Best bet is to manually vet them requiring a manual admin approval ie send us a picture of your pootrol prior to getting posting status

Painful is an understatement, can't even ban the member and remove the visitor message at the same time so it you want 2 ban the member you have to remove the message then ban them :(

Edit: Andy are you able to do a mass visitor message prune in CP???

I've just been struggling with time lately folks, work is just out of control lately.

Toddy, don't stress about it mate. I couldn't find an easy mass cull of the visitor message but ill just manually do it myself bud and moving forward visitor public messaging is gone.

In regards to spammers, they are registering with email addresses and they can only use one email address for one account and cannot use that address again.

It did cull it but they are relentless and still coming in.

Plenty of other tricks I can do. I'm not home for hours but ill knock this on the head late tonight or tomorrow morning.

Relentless little buggers!!!!

Ok, just bought out the big guns...lol

Just installed an anti spam program that blocks all known spam users, email, IP addresses, etc.

Its linked up with hundreds of other forums and they all report to eachother automatically and everyone is updated with the banned list, etc.

We tried this a while ago and it worked a treat but occasionally a member or two couldn't get access to the forum.

I have excluded all users who have 25 posts or more but I cannot exclude the general new members so fingers crossed folks!

Yeah theyre cheeky buggers Toddy, thanks for your help with the visitor messages but I got up at sparrows this morning and found out a way to mass remove them.

Majority should now be all gone.

I really didn't want to put this spam filter on here, I know it works a treat but I end up being inundated with members who cannot sign up and it does restrict some people. So far so good though.

I had to go into MySQL which is a bit scary as you can do some serious damage in there but it was easy...all done in an hour.

Yeah if I ever say it can't be done just keep hassling me...lol
